Preparing for A/W 14, jeans?

Are skinnies still the big style or is something else coming in fashion? I can't wear skinny jeans so I've avoided wearing jeans at all for quite some time. Wardrobe planning now for autumn and would love to bring jeans back...

Was wondering this too, so will watch with interest. I have some skinnies but am thinking of getting rid, as they can look a bit like Max Wall.

Who cares which ones are 'in' if there are others that suit you? I have a friend who always wears dark slight bootcut jeans, because those are the ones she likes and which suit her. Tbh even the 'fashion' shops sell the whole range of styles, so it's just a matter of finding which ones you like/feel good.

PinkSquash · 11/08/2014 09:58

Ha, my Nana wears Mom jeans. She said it's only a matter of time before she was fashionable again Grin

I'm with Remus, wear what suits and what makes you feel comfortable and confident.

I like more relaxed skinnies - like 'boyfriend' but not baggy.

Sinfandel · 11/08/2014 10:13

I care, Remus. ITA that it's ok to not care what's in fashion for some people, but for me, at my age and with my body type I have to be very careful to not look like I'm stuck in the past with my clothes. I find that I need to keep jeans and shoes current, otherwise I look awfully frumpy. That's why I've chosen to not wear jeans for a while. Hence my question.

As for 'Mum' jeans, I didn't look good in those first time round, so I'll be giving them a miss also Grin

Joining in because I care too and want to watch this thread.
I find that I look thinner and taller but also older, more dated and frumpier in dark bootlegs. I agree that shoes and jeans can keep you current...although I know I will look like a Grand Mom in Mom jeans so they will be given a wide berth.

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 11/08/2014 10:19

Gap Every kind of shape and style here. Honestly, a pair that fit you well will be much, much better and less 'frumpy' than whatever Vogue or Victoria Beckham or somesuch says you 'should' be wearing.

worldgonecrazy · 11/08/2014 10:21

"Mum" jeans are going to make anyone over the age of 30 look stuck in the past anyway.

Buy what suits. I look better in skinnies, some women look better in less fitted jeans.

I agree with keeping footwear more up to date though.

Mum jeans and mum boots worn with a fleece will always look naff, even if Kate Moss wore it.

dexter73 · 11/08/2014 10:34

There seem to be lots of distressed skinnies and boyfriends coming into the shops.

gerbiltamer · 11/08/2014 14:00

I've never been a big fan of ripped/distressed jeans, mainly because I feel like holes in places such as the knees would be uncomfortable. Surely dark wash mid rise slim/straight jeans are pretty timeless though?

gruffalocake2 · 11/08/2014 14:19

Try boyfriend jeans if mum style doesn't suit. And also straight leg jeans which have a nod to fashion (moving on from skinnies) but might be easier to wear. These look nice. I read bootcut are just about coming all the way around again though and flares are also a thing if they suit you and you wear the right kind of shoes. Actually a lot of it is about wearing the right shoes with the right jeans I think to make them look current.
