Help! My DD plucked her pubic hair! [Title edited by MNHQ at OP's request]

Bookmonster345 · 09/08/2014 22:22

Also posted on teenagers but posted here in order to get more traffic. My DD (12) has plucked her pubic hair, and it has now grown back incredibly stubbly, with lots of angry red bumps. I have no issues with her plucking her body hair, after all, it's her hair, but how can I help with the regrowth? Any advice?

Wow. That title is very worrying Shock

Lottapianos · 09/08/2014 22:24

U guess you mean DD not Dad!

MissWimpyDimple · 09/08/2014 22:25

Exfoliation and moisturising will help avoid ingrown hairs but there isn't much you can do sadly Confused

anyoldname76 · 09/08/2014 22:25

I suggest you ask to change the thread title for a start.

SirChenjin · 09/08/2014 22:25

Phew - that title had me v worried

Cheeky76890 · 09/08/2014 22:26

What about one of those skin scrubby things to help the hair break through the skin

LittleBearPad · 09/08/2014 22:27

No much you can do I'm afraid for a bit.

Maybe change the title though...

Cheeky76890 · 09/08/2014 22:27

Just properly read the title - best to change it

Greenwayslide · 09/08/2014 22:27

That title had me saying WTF out loud.

FrontForward · 09/08/2014 22:29

You know the alcohol hand gel you can buy in chemists ...use that

Bookmonster345 · 09/08/2014 22:30

How do I change thread title?

Slh122 · 09/08/2014 22:31

Report your OP to MNHQ asking them to change thread title :)

RedRoom · 09/08/2014 22:33

God almighty, I'm relieved that was a typo! I'd exfoliate with a boiled and spotlessly clean damp flannel (no chemical exfoliants or particles) and apply sudocreme (sp?) to the area to help heal any sore bits. That will moisturise it and keep it infection free.

Bookmonster345 · 09/08/2014 22:34

Thank you for such quick replies, I have reported thread to MNHQ and asked them to change title, stupid auto correct!

Phew!

Fairyfellowsmasterstroke · 09/08/2014 22:39

MNHQ - Intervene ASAP and help OP to change the thread title before SS, Police, Childline, NSPCC etc batter down her front door!!!!

CafeAuLaitMerci · 09/08/2014 22:41

Relieved the title was a mistake.

If it was me I'd be more concerned about her being 12 and feeling she needed to do it - where she's got that idea from is worrying.

Lioness82 · 09/08/2014 22:52

Not sure about plucked, but ingrown hairs from shaving were helped with gentle cleaning with one of those thin facial loofah pads (gently - tell her not to scrub. Will exfoliate skin and help release trapped hair - using an anti- acne facial wash helps, but one with no bits.), some Soluble aspirin, dissolved in warm water - dab on with cotton wool (might reduce inflammation) and some moisturiser (if you have one with salicylic acid, even better- check face cream, again anti-acne ones can be good - particularly those for boys who often end up with razor burn/ingrown hairs on face.)

Perhaps going commando too - wearing a long t-shirt and no bottoms if she can (the shorts style underwear will avoid elastic irritating the hair growing back too).

Dontgotosleep · 09/08/2014 22:53

I've just nearly had a heart palputation reading that title.

scarletforya · 09/08/2014 22:56

Tea tree oil, diluted. Phew, didn't know what this thread was going to be!

SoftKittyWarmKitty · 09/08/2014 23:01

If you have any Sudocreme that's great for use on the pubic area after waxing, so would probably work a treat to soothe her skin. Put a thick layer on then leave overnight before showering as normal in the morning. Repeat if required.

Has she done this before, or anything similar? Plucking her hair out could be a sign of a condition called trichotillomania. Have you asked her why she plucked it, rather than shave or use Immac? Her answer is key here.

msfreud · 09/08/2014 23:09

Don't want to worry you but I have known women to pluck their pubic hair as a form of self harm so as well as helping with the physical side, you might want to be alert to why she did it.

MillyDots · 09/08/2014 23:16

She is a bit young to be removing her pubic hair isn't she? I think I would be worried about where she has got the idea that women remove their pubic hair.

adviceforme · 09/08/2014 23:23

I can remember plucking the first couple of hairs because they just appeared and I didnt want them there - i dont think i realised what it meant like I didnt want to be a teen with 'hair'

Is it this OP or has she got an idea that removal to stay 'smooth' is the thing.

Eitherway the regrowth itche will pass after a day.

Phantomquartz · 09/08/2014 23:53

Actually, I did the same for a while - I was scared of puberty and felt out of control. Nothing to do with self harm or any sort of grooming regime.
