Can I wear this dress to someone else's wedding?

I am going to a wedding in a few weeks, it is a festival themed wedding, we are glamping and the dress code stated 'festival chic'.

Today I bought this dress to wear in Monsoon, I thought it had a Boho, festival feel to it and d can see it with wellies if needs be, but is the white laciness of it too bridal? uk.monsoon.co.uk/view/product/uk_catalog/mon_13,mon_13.21/5532510608#gallery

I should add that this is a gay wedding, so there will be no bride in a white dress, but just wasn't sure if I would look like I think I'm getting married!

Not sure the link is right..

gymboywalton · 07/08/2014 17:48

no i don't think you can
too bridal

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 07/08/2014 17:49

Erm...generally I'd say, 'No' tbh - but in the circumstances, maybe - do you know the couple well enough to ask?

EmmanuelWoganberry · 07/08/2014 17:51

It is quite bridal but presumably you won’t be accessorising with a veil or elbowing one of the grooms out of all the pictures so in the circumstances I would say it’s fine. It’s a beautiful dress.

PinkiePromise · 07/08/2014 17:54

It is one of my husband's oldest friends, but neither of us really want to admit that we have no idea what 'festival chic' entails. They are all still far cooler and trendier than us!
I wanted something that wasn't too formal or casual and would look a OK with wellies if it rains! I love the dress and would never wear it if there was a bride, but think I might just look a bit odd!

I think the style is fine for 'festival chic' but if at all possible, you should take it back and get something similar but in a different colour.

PurpleWithRed · 07/08/2014 18:01

Hmm - bit too festival-chic-bride for me. Ok in any other colour.

PinkiePromise · 07/08/2014 18:04

It was only available in white, but I think you are right that I shouldn't wear it, if I don't feel entirely comfortable about it now, I will only spend the wedding feeling out of place. aargh back to the drawing board for an outfit then. Thanks for the opinions.

A maxi would work, if you like them.

This has quite a Woodstock feel to it!

Cute and a bit crazy

busywifey · 07/08/2014 18:07

Gorgeous dress and very festival chic but too bridal. I am also on the hunt for a dress to wear to a family wedding a few months away - nightmare!

PinkiePromise · 07/08/2014 18:14

Remus thanks for the links. I tried a couple on like the first one, but they didn't feel quite weddingy enough. I like the Coast one, but they don't have it in my size. I struggle with Maxi dresses as I am only just over 5ft.

This is festival attire. I really don't think you should wear the white dress. Done a floppy hat, sandals, lots of beads. Think hippy

Greengardenpixie · 07/08/2014 18:21

what about this:

I love odd molly...what - if you are petite it may be longer?

PinkiePromise · 07/08/2014 18:42

I like the Oasis dress I saw it in the shop this morning! but it was a bit short! even on me!
The odd Molly stuff is very boho, but not sure it is weddingy enough. I like the lacy one from Next, but not sure it is festival enough. I think that is my problem not wanting to look too dressed up for a traditional wedding, but not wanting to look like I'm just going to a festival. The grooms have had their suits tailor made in Saville Row, so I know that they are not turning up in shorts and t shirts.
I don't really know anyone else going that well to ask what they are wearing. Think I might have to take a selection and peek out of the tent to see what everyone else is wearing!

The dress is lovely but the colour is utterly wrong. Even in the absence of a bride, I'm afraid.

These are sort of similar but a little more expensive, not all with sleeves though:
one
two
three
four
five

this isn't similar at all (would be a decent length on you).

Greengardenpixie · 07/08/2014 19:01

Any of the lace ones above are fine. I like the lace one from next as its not OTT and really you could wear it again. It also comes in navy. I think its ok for a festival, feminine enough and modern because dropped waists are really in fashion.

MrsLettuce · 07/08/2014 19:05

Oh, there are a couple more from that range too, one and 2 or 3 others.

PinkiePromise · 07/08/2014 19:09

Thanks MrsLettuce those look like the kind of thing I'm after. I think I have got that lace/crochet overlay style into my head as being the ideal thing now. I might go for one of the grey ones, a bit more me than the pink.

Thanks so much everyone for helping and from saving me from a terrible wedding fashion faux pas!
