SLS & Silicone free & hairdressers

Hello

I've decided to give the whole SLS and silicone free thing ago and see if it makes a difference to my knackered hair. Only been using the Dr Organics stuff for about a week.

Anyway I'm booked in at hairdressers next Monday and just wondered about their products. Should I request they don't use styling products with silicones in (as I won't be able to wash them out with my shampoo at home) or won't it matter if it's just once? I think I would feel a bit of a nob specifically requesting silicone free products etc.

What does everybody else do?

I started doing the curly girl method a couple of weeks ago - no shampoo, washing with silicone-free conditioner only. There are lots of threads about it on here. I remember from one of those that someone said they took their own products to the hairdresser, and that the haidresser didnt really bat an eyelid. Though since I've read about how it's bad for curly hair to be brushed or combed, and that it should be cut dry, I think I'm going to do a DIY job on mine from now on ...

I take my own shampoo & conditioner (decanted into little travel bottles) to my hairdressers, he understands why I've gone down the CG route and has commented on the improvement in my hair, so doesn't mind at all.

He cuts mine wet and does a great job, I don't get it dried, just co-wash & plop etc. when I get home.

I suggest you explain - if they don't like it, find another hairdresser, you're the customer after all.

I dread to think of the damage I could do if I cut it myself Grin

Thank you, I hadn't thought of taking my own. I am dreading going, I hate bloody hairdressers - I wish I could cut it myself!

I know what you mean, I'm so glad to have found a great hairdresser at last! He takes the p/££ out of me for not wanting my hair blow dried or styled (I run to my car praying that no one will see me Grin), but in a very good humoured way.

Maybe it's worth you putting a shout out on MN for recommendations for good hairdressers in your area?
