Foundation help for a wedding

MissMiss1 · 06/08/2014 17:36

I'm off to a wedding this weekend and need a new foundation.

I'd prefer to be able to buy it from the high street and am hoping you ladies can help.

Can anyone recommend a good coverage foundation which will also give a natural sheen to the skin, keeping it looking healthy.

Help me please! :-)

oh dear- there are so many it's almost impossible.
without knowing your skin, shades, what you have already tried.

How old are you and do you have blemishes, oily skin, dry skin, etc.

UncrushedParsley · 06/08/2014 17:44

Currently using Borjous 123 Perfect. Not many £ and pretty good IMO. I have combinations skin.

Bobbi Brown has a lovely, natural looking foundation and if you go to the counter in a dept store they will match the colour to your skin for you.

Lancôme do a great range, dewy and natural.

I'm early 40s with a slightly dehydrated skin. I'm starting to show wrinkles around the eye area and am on the lighter end of the colour spectrum.

I've tried Revlon Colourstay, did like it but it's slightly too heavy. Am currently using Mac Face n Body but am struggling with it. Not sure I like it. I've also tried Loreal infallible, yuk! Bourjois Healthy, that was ok.

What about Loreal magique?

Would like to buy from superdrug or boots if possible.

Also a good concealer to match would be good.

See if you can get samples of any of the Dior foundations - they are very good, but I'm not sure which one would be better for your skintype. I have oily, dehydrated skin and my favourite foundation is Diorskin Nude. Medium coverage and lasts well on the skin.

There's also Estee Lauder Double Wear Light. I think the normal Double Wear will be too full coverage for you if you're not keen on Colourstay. But the Light version is great.

I find that Mac Face & Body gets oily during the day (especially if I don't set it with powder), but I like it as a lighter coverage foundation. I apply it with a Real Techniques Buffing Brush and it looks really good on the skin.

As a comparison, I use N1 in Mac F&B, 020 in Diorskin Nude and Intensity 2.0 (but could go lighter without any issues). I use 52 in Bourjois Healthy Mix Foundation.

I have heard good things about the L'oreal Magique one - it's supposed to be similar to an Armani foundation if I remember correctly.

If you are going to be in photos, try to avoid one with an SPF.

I love the Laura Mercier one but my ultimate is the Giorgio Armani foundation.

Another trick is to use concealer first, means that you need to use less foundation and your natural skin comes through more.

Have you also tried using a primer and loose powder to set?

I'm almost the same age and skin type as you.

MAC Studio Fix Foundation is a lovely consistency, as is Nars Sheer Glow. They're the ones I keep coming back to.

Another vote for double wear light. Talk to an E L consultant for advice, but I think it's great stuff that does n' t disappear or look cakey.

Ledkr · 07/08/2014 08:20

Put it on sparingly with a brush, I find when I do that I get so many compliments it's untrue.
I'm using a loreal teint one with light coverage and it looks lovely. I'm mid forties with combo skin few eye creases and scars.

Clinique - if you're going to boots, ask them to match a colour to you. Take a mirror so you can go outside and see it under natural light before you pay anything.

Clinique do a really fantastic range, and I'm sure they will have something to match to you. They're concealers are also the best I have ever used (and I say that as someone who just to have bad acne, so I know ALOT about concealers!!). Go for the cream one in the tube that looks like a mascara (it has a sponge wand). It lasts for ages, and is just great.

The alternative option would be to get something like a BB or CC cream (I like the clinique CC one), which is more like a tinted moisteriser, and then using a little powder on top to control shine.

kaykayblue · 07/08/2014 10:47

pS, I'm still not sponsored in any way by clinique!

Pinkfrocks · 07/08/2014 11:00

Clinique Perfectly Real is nice- medium coverage, look natural and best for combo skin.

SludgeBrown · 07/08/2014 17:33

If you're in photos use loose powder for a matt finish. It will also set your foundation. I hate loose powder but for staying power it's the best!! I don't like to see my face shiny on photos...dewy foundation sand even glittery bronzer both give this effect so for me, it's loose powder all the way. Old lady cosmetics it may be but it does work.

Safmellow · 07/08/2014 20:48

I love Max Factor 2 in 1 serum foundation.

Ponyinthepool · 08/08/2014 14:46

Rimmel foundations are fantastic - currently using 'wake me up' with the orange cap but have used the lasting finish and the match with great results too. Good coverage with a nice natural sheen too, I love it.
