First swimsuit (me not dd)...

For the first time as an adult I need to buy a swimsuit, I haven't been swimming since I was a child (aggravates my eczema) but I want to be able to take dd swimming sometimes when dp isn't able to.

Have absolutely no idea what to look for - do they have built in bra bits (I could do with a bit of support I think)? I'm a size 8 and would like something that covers up a fair bit I think. Are there different fabrics? Any to avoid? Any particular brands/shops anyone would recommend?
I have a wardrobe full of lovely clothes but when it comes to this I feel clueless.

debenhams has a good range. i also really rate boden swimsuits

I like the Maine New England ones from Debenhams. This seasons colours don't really suit me but the material is always thick and they stay in the right places when swimming. They have lightly padded cups, so no showing nipples and some support but not too defined, so I think they suit a variety of shapes.

I also have the tankini version of this

Again the material is good quality, slightly padded, very comfortable.

Go forth and try on. Personally I hate anything other than normal sports swimming costumes, with racer straps.

I don't like the feel of lining and support layers when wet and they take forever to dry.

I have narrow shoulders so big scooped backs straps just fall off.

Silly thin straps are a disaster, any faintly competent large baby works out how to expose DMs breasts at the most Blush moment.

Also you can get sport costumes with short legs, brilliant for avoiding excessive, possibly eczema encouraging topiary.

The drying with linings is an is an issue Elephant :) Every year I take one tankini on holiday thinking that of course it'll dry in the heat. Then spend a couple of weeks putting on clammy swim gear. This year I'm organised and taking 3.

I like these. Cheap as chips, comfy, covered up but sport looking

Thanks all.
Elephant: sports costumes with short legs sound ideal, any tips on where to buy? Good point about the straps, have also got narrow shoulders so wide straps could be a disaster. And yes toddler does have a habit of pulling my top down to take a look at whats underneath!
Only intending to use in learner swimming pool or lido so won't be going in sea or anything.

Next labels catalogue has a nice speedo one.

If you google speedo, you'll get all the people who stock practical costumes.

There are loads as a lot of teen swimming club girls prefer them (just as DD2 and her gymnastics lot like velour hot pants over their leotards) they feel a bit more dressed and don't have to shave so high.

Also, before you know it DD will want to sit on your knee in the water shoot or laugh at your attempt at diving in.

I'm short sighted, so didn't realise all the teen boys were laughing until I looked down and discovered that thin straps and diving boards don't mix.

Thanks all - will investigate speedo and SportsDirect. Am always amazed at the bikini clad ladies messing about with toddlers at the pool...v brave!

Marks and Spencer have got 30% off all their swimwear at the moment. I bought two nice ones from there last week.
