If so, how much did you pay and was it worth it?

Had one free as part of something else. Should have cost £55. Was supposed to be 45 mins, but took more like an hour. Fab for what colours suited, which bit to use and how and how to vary according to need. Finally have people telling me I look great (when I make the effort) which they didn't used to! Has given me the confidence to experiment a little too.

I have. Always wanted to; where is a good place to start looking?

There are some amazing tutorials on YouTube . Pixiwoo is one but there are lots. Not personally tailored obviously but you can find out about particular things like hooded eyes , scarring etc and it's free Grin

My mum took me to a local beautician with a good reputation when I was 17 and left me there for an hour. I don't know how much she paid but it was well worth it for products suited to my skin, how to use liquid eyeliner, how to blend eyeshadow, use lipliner etc. I'm in my 30s now and a lot more confident at experimenting with different looks after having a good grounding in the basics.

Before I was aware of YouTube
I had a lesson specifically asked for "quick make up tricks coz I've got a new baby" she dithered around asked what I usually do put almost none on me there was green eyeshadow involved and charged me £35 gave me a £5 voucher only valid that day so had to buy body moisturiser I didn't want to use it Shock all my own fault lesson learnt

Have a look at Lisa Eldridge's website too. She's a professional makeup artist who has worked with virtually every celebrity woman on the planet. She has loads of free videos about all sorts of make up techniques and she recommends products in a huge price range, from Collection and Rimmel up to the other end of the spectrum.
