"If you wear those I will get very angry, I will shout at you and then I will... I will ... I will RUN AWAY!" Do your dc pass comment on your clothes choices?

All because I bought a pair of blingy, fuschia suede pumps.

That was 7yo ds. This is the boy whose favourite shorts for the past three years have been a pair of dd's outgrown bright pink floral cycling shorts! He wedges himself into them at every opportunity, even mufti day at school.

What delightful commentary do your dc pass on your clothing choices?

My daughter is 16. She is usually good at 'advising' me even though we have different tastes.

Just lately though she is more into comfort and practicality, which is great.

I love going shopping with her as she will steer me away from clothes that belong on a twenty year old!

If I'd seen your shoes on their own in a stock photo I probably wouldn't have liked them as I'm not a lover of pumps, but in your photo they look rather nice on.

Children just say what they think. Sometimes a good thing. My son was excellent at styling me when he was younger as he is knowledgable about design.

16 yr old fashion policewoman. I just get a Hmm and a no. It can be a joy working her stylish judgey pants.

WilburIsSomePig · 05/08/2014 10:13

I like them! DD said I looked like 'an actual real life lemon' in a yellow t shirt last week.

Dumpylump · 05/08/2014 10:15

I like your shoes! Where did you get them? Grin

mycatlikestwiglets · 05/08/2014 10:32

DS has been known to throw full on screaming tantrums shouting "take it off" when he doesn't like my outfit. Despite my parade being well and truly rained on I refuse to be fashion dictated to by a 2 year old Grin

8 year old DD: that dress makes you look like a German exchange student.

we don't know any German exchange students.

Ohwhatfuckeryisthis · 05/08/2014 12:37

The shoes are lovely btw Six.

Grin at the kids' comments. I think they're sweet and have no idea why you'd get such an extreme reaction. Everyone in my family is pretty uninterested by my fashion choices. My 9YO DD will usually have some comment to make, but sadly the fashion fairy has yet to knock on her door (this is her current favourite T shirt - she asked for a blue T with dolphins on for her birthday Hmm.

My 7YO son just tells me everything is beautiful, clearly taking lessons from his father Wink.

9yo DD comments when I wear a dress / skirt, because it is so rare that I do. She is very much in favour of dresses while I am 99% jeans and t-shirts.

DS comments when I wear something particularly soft and snuggly. He is also my little scent-judger - he has a nose like a bloodhound and will smell me all over before pronouncing a verdict on any new perfume or body cream or soap etc.

Fluffycloudland77 · 05/08/2014 13:19

I laughed at "German exchange student".

So, you get to wear pretty shoes & a child free day? Snap his hand off op.

Bakersbum · 05/08/2014 13:30

My 3 year old the other day said 'are you really going out dressed as that today mummy?'

I have no idea what prompted that statement, but I must admit I did go and change, he put me right off it Blush.

WitchWay · 05/08/2014 16:51

I have an awful jacket that my DS thinks is just too embarrassing to wear. It's even worse than my usual jackets, apparently Confused

I wore the pink blings today. Ds looked at my feet. Considered.

"Hmmm. No."

Shook his head and walked away. To complain about me to his grandma!

My 11yo would absolutely die for that dolphin t-shirt! I would have to sneak it out of her room at night to wash it.

Shoes are fine.

The worst I've ever had are -

dd1 (when about 8) That skirt looks like the sort of skirt a woman who buys her shoes from Millets would wear.

dd2 (last week - she's 17) No, your skirt doesn't make you look like mutton. It is better than your shorts, but then again, ANYTHING, is better than your shorts.

Ouch.

When I was a child in the early 80s my sister and I would berate our mother for collecting us from school in the Indian Tent Dress. It was a bit like a cross between these two dresses. We hated that dress!
