So is everyone but me flat-chested these days?

That's all I can deduce after a look round the shops today. Rail after rail of tops and dresses with high necklines. Nothing scooped or V. Why is this? Am I horribly out of style then with my generous (not massive) boobs? Or am I looking in the wrong places?

I get that boobs are not high fashion (hence why Vicky Beckham had her falsies taken out) and catwalk models don't seem to have them but ordinary women still do, don't they? Confused

but if you have a 40 inch chest, how are you a 30-anything in bra size? Isn't the '30' the number of inches around your chest? How does a bra that's ten inches shorter than your chest measurement go around you?

No, the 30-something measurement is the underbust measurement, and the larger measurement is the one over the fullest part of your boobs. Have a look at the bra intervention threads for more information.

I also hate high necklines - I have large-ish boobs - I actually don't find them aesthetically pleasing to look at on anyone, whatever the size of their boobs.

HellonHeels · 04/08/2014 10:23

picnic the 30-anything in bra sizing refers to your band (ribcage) measurement, not your measurement around the breasts themselves.

grumblepuss · 04/08/2014 10:25

Picnic... You need an intervention.

HellonHeels · 04/08/2014 10:25

X X X post!

Picnic please do a bra intervention like HazleNutt suggests.

maryz, better than [hockeysock][hockeysock]

ElizabethArdenGreenTeax · 04/08/2014 10:32

i measure around my rib cage, it's 30", I measure around my boobs, it's 32". my waist is 31" i swear! and my hips are 38".

and yet although that sounds like a weeble, I don't think i look like a weeble. I might be kidding myself.

RelocatorRelocator · 04/08/2014 10:37

Me too. I'm actually really short on summer tops as I can't find any I like! Matronly is really not a good look.

picnicbasketcase · 04/08/2014 11:02

Smile Ahhh, I'd forgotten which measurement was which. Sorry. Yes I did put my measurements up on a thread and went and tried the sizes I was told but they were really uncomfortable, tight and dug into my skin and didn't go flat against the middle bit (IYSWIM) so I went back to buying the size I had before Blush
Sorry for slight thread detour.

Good to know there are still other boobs out there!

I wonder why the high street doesn't want to design for us? I would love to ask someone designing/buying for a high street shop why this is?

I am not remotely fat. I'm a size 8/10, with 32E boobs. Hardly a niche market. And I have money to spend on dresses and tops if only someone will design them.

So so odd.

Nope, 32 G here. I know what you mean about lots of high necklines at the moment. And most v neck ones are indecently low on me. It's a real challenge finding something flattering.

HazleNutt · 04/08/2014 12:52

picnic sounds like the cup was too small. Go try the same back size, but start with several sizes larger cups, and work your way down - it's easy to see if the cup is too large, but people often manage to squeeze themselves into too small cups.

I have to agree with the OP, but I have the opposite complaint as well - why are some work clothes cut so low? I don't want to show off my cleavage at work. Pepperberry work dresses for example, most of them would leave half of my boobage uncovered, not really a look I'm going for. Can't there be a middle ground - flattering, but not naked?
