Keeping coloured clothes bright in the wash

I've realised my coloured clothes all fade quickly, despite washing on 30/40 (depending on label). I've looked at washing liquids for coloured clothes but they all contain enzymes, however we all have sensitive skin and need a non bio.

Can anybody recommend something for sensitive skin which will stop colours fading?

Use a mild detergent, such a 'Woolite'. Wash all dark clothes together on cold, short wash cycle. Dry naturally out of direct sunlight. That's my method! Smile

Any non-biological liquid detergent will help as liquids do not contain bleach.
You should also use a fabric conditioner as they can help maintain colours for longer.
Was clothes inside out and make sure they are also inside out if you line-dry them.

One of those laundry balls I use this and have had it for years I also use it on clothes that just need freshening up. If I do use detergent, I only use half a tablet and pre-treat stains with fairy soap.

We use non bio liquids already and are still getting fading! We don't use fabric conditioner though as it irritates DHs skin and I find the smell overpowering.

I've tried those laundry balls too and they were useless in our house. Just didn't work for us at all.

The laundry balls aren't very good at cleaning.

Wash at low temps and in short cycles for light staining. Try a very mild fab con like comfort pure or fairy which aren't so heavily fragranced.

canyou not use the colour sheets? The onws for mixed washes so the colour doesnt run. With time they are supposed to help fix colour. Colour catchers I think they are called. I use them all the time to mix my washes. I use non bio too.

I use Ecover Zero Fabric conditioner and it doesn't have a smell or anything irritant in it.

Use liquid on your colours and powders on your whites - all powders contain bleaching agents - if you read the labels even the same brand and scent you'll see the powdered version has the bleach in it.
Also if you buy a new washing machine all the bumpf that comes in the instruction leaflets tells you this.
I buy the liquid and powder of my preferred brands and use accordingly as to dark or white washes.
Also use less than the box recommends - it is better for your clothes and your pocket!
