How do you clean and look after diamonds?

My diamonds have lost their sparkle, I wear them all the time and don't take them off so there's probably a build up of soap, sun cream etc, I have a sonic cleaner and have tried cleaning them with a toothbrush but it's not made much difference, the platinum looks scratched and I think needs a good polish with a machine. Wonder how much a jeweler might charge to clean a ring, necklace and stud earrings? Do other people take off their jewellry when bathing, cleaning, applying hand cream etc?

Mr muscle kitchen (it's in an orange bottle) as recommended by my local jewellers.

Put ring in small dish, add couple of squirts of mr muscle and cover with boiling water. Leave for 5 mins then rinse well and buff with a soft toothbrush. Done every morning and they will sparkle.

Just need to remember to actually do it now!!

Take them back to your jeweller they will clean and polish for free.
I prefer the dull look wear has given my platinum rings - platinum is not plated - yellow gold is plated with silver then rhodium to give the white gold effect.
I love picking the bits of gubbins out of the settings of my rings with a needle after I've been gardening or baking - satisfying like digging splinters out of the DC!

For a lazy quick clean I hold mine under the jets of the power shower when I'm in it. Just make sure their is a cover or plug over/in the plug hole first.

Use a dip you can get from any jewellers for a few pounds.

Incidentally Diamonds are the hardest substance known to man - this is why Diamonds were used in cutting instruments in manufacturing (probably superseded by lasers now) You won't be able to scratch a diamond with a toothbrush...lol with a nerdy style laugh.

I take my rings off for baking & sometimes for gardening. Never for hand cream. I haven't cleaned them for ages (years) but the last time I did I used gin Smile

Soft tooth brush & washing up liquid is what I was advised by a Bond St jeweller's.

Yep, like nuzzle said. I hate grubby diamonds, it looks especially awful if you have a large diamond. I have to clean mine every day, I have 3 diamonds on my ring, and there's loads of nooks in the setting that things can get stuck in them. It's easier to keep clean than try to scrub after a long time.
