Raspberry Ketone - All just a hyped up diet fad or genuine?

Y0rkshirePudding · 31/07/2014 12:37

I've recently noticed a lot of hype surrounding raspberry ketone supplements being used to assist in weight loss, particularly with respect to burning off visceral tummy fat and increasing metabolism.

The info I've found online equally ranges between celebrities endorsing it as a 'miracle' worker and reviews from the average public claiming its changed their lives, right down to people claiming they're a waste of money diet fad that do nothing and not to believe the hype.

I just wondered if anyone here has actually tried these supplements and whether they worked for you or not?...

I just assume it's the latest snake oil 'miracle' cure.

Y0rkshirePudding · 31/07/2014 12:58

Yeah I tried the snake venom under-eye cream because people raved about it. Luckily I found the one people claimed to love in my local pound shop so I didn't waste much money, but it was a right loada pants - did sod all for my eyes! I still look puffy like I've just done 10 rounds with Tyson Sad

Its not just made up shit, it's also a scam.

If you do the 'trial offer' you actually sign up for years supply.

It's nonsense. Rubbish. A scam.

Y0rkshirePudding · 31/07/2014 13:31

I've seen the so-called trial offers and would never sign up for that. I've heard stories of people signing up for the 'free' supplements but then had to enter their bank details!

If I bought any I would get them from a health shop, such as Holland & Barrett or some other similar retailer as there are various companies and suppliers of these supplements.

I just didn't know if these particular scam artists were just jumping on the band wagon, using a perfectly legitimate diet supplement for their own ends with a copy-cat rubbish one that they advertise online, probably shipped in container-loads from China!

I've just started taking it but only for a few days so to early to tell. I have a wobbly tummy and hope this is someway miraculously get rid of it!!!! I do plenty of exercise and eat reasonable well other than my chocolate addiction. It really is the only part of my body that I really hate so let's hope it does what it says it will. I got mine from my vitamins with 20% off so they didn't cost to much either

Kundry · 31/07/2014 19:34

Of course it's made up shit. There is no tablet or supplement that will cause weight loss - if it actually did you would need to get it on prescription.

The science is absolute rubbish and unproven in human beings - again if it actually worked they could quote statistics to prove it, not just anecdotes and woo about it being 'natural'.

Sorry only 2 ways to lose weight and they are both much harder than taking a supplement: eat less, move more (speaking as a fat lass who struggles to do either)

ThePinkOcelot · 31/07/2014 19:40

I bought some through Groupon so didn't waste too much, but I didn't lose an ounce. Just lost 18lbs with slimming world though!

McBear · 31/07/2014 19:45

I bought three months worth from groupon. Didn't lose a pound.

However, it contains caffeine which if taken before exercise boosts fat burning. This could explain why some people are certain it works...

Kundry · 31/07/2014 19:58

The placebo effect is a powerful thing Smile

Most people trying to lose weight will do something different, even subconsciously, not just carry on exactly the same eating habits plus a supplement - but if you lose weight you would then credit the supplement.

If it works by containing caffeine, couldn't you just have a coffee before exercising Confused

McBear · 31/07/2014 20:04

Yes kundry. Yes you could Grin

Nells77 · 01/08/2014 15:54

Hmmmm maybe I'll stop taking it!!!! Before this I took kelp but not really regularly enough to do much but my hair did grow really quick! Does anyone know if this is a bit of a myth or if it actually works?

Kundry · 01/08/2014 16:28

While theoretically one of the components in kelp could help reduce fat absorption, again there are no trials showing this actually works in human beings. There is one study suggesting it does not work.

If it did work you would have to take it really regularly, probably everytime you ate.

So the way you took it, it definitely would not have worked.

And we don't know if it works at all yet anyway - although clearly this hasn't stopped unscrupulous manufacturers selling it to us Sad

McBear · 01/08/2014 16:28

I believe it's b vitamins that help hair grow so if if has them in it then it could do.

You may as well take them til your supply runs out I did. There is a fat burner that my friend is taking. It's hydroxycut elite I believe. He's lost no pounds but his jeans are lose apparently. Not sure how that works

Nells77 · 01/08/2014 16:40

I have a vit b12 injection so maybe that's why my hair has grown Blush it seems the only was to reduce the belly size is going to have to be good old planking, I was just hoping for an easier option Grin

oliviafrombolivia · 01/08/2014 17:55

if it sounds too good to be true, it is..

McBear · 01/08/2014 18:19

No such thing

moggiesmum · 01/08/2014 21:25

I tried this - did nothing! and then they debited my bank account for nearly £200.00! - When I rang and asked why I had only asked for the trial they said it was in the terms and conditions that they send monthly at £98.00 per pot!! I had real trouble in getting a refund and had to threaten distance selling regulations before I got some money back - and then they kept£20.00 for admin costs.!
DO NOT BUY IT !!- its a scam !

Shia · 01/08/2014 21:51

The only pounds you'll lose will be from your bank account!

Ihatefootball · 01/08/2014 21:54

I bought a bottle of it in holland and Barrett. It was £9.99 I think, so you don't have to sign up for these scams to try it. I have lost a bit of weight too, without doing anything different...
