Frizz at the top of my head....

rather than at the roots? Anyone? What can i do to make it better..nothing works for me atm. Tried hair oils, plopping...its all futile and the result is frizz at the top rather than at the ends. Is it split ends curling at the top...i get my hair trimmed but only now and then. I dont know what i can do. I dye my hair..is it that?

I used to have this if I left my hair to dry naturally. I now do the curly girl method and use a load of non silicone conditioner. Hair frizzes out because it is looking for moisture. My hair is now well moisturised and I no longer have this issue.

Greengardenpixie · 30/07/2014 11:48

Thanks zara...will try the curly girl method properly. I kind of do half of it. What conditioner do you use..actually what is your process as im desperate to get rid of it and feel i am fed up buying stuff and it not working.

I have this problem too. Not sure of the solution, except that almost everything I've tried so far has resulted in oily roots. I have noticed though that when I get a good blow dry, the problem disappears ... (if I only I could afford one every week...)

ZaraW · 30/07/2014 12:51

Greengarden I wash my hair once a week with SLS free shampoo and then I use Kinky Curly Knot Today Conditioner or Shea Butter leave in conditioner (though it is heavy I wash it out as my curls go limp if I leave it on). I also use Kinky Curly Styling Custard after conditioning. I've been doing CG or 4 months now and I am still playing around with products that work well for me.

I have an appointment with Matthew James in September and I am hoping he will be able to help me get the most of my curls.

A silk pillowcase stops hair frizzing overnight.

Thanks zara.
The thing is...i dont have overly curly hair. Its more 'kinky' and only curly if i leave it to dry..well curl and wave and kinks and frizz...not the best look. In may ways my hair is versatile cause i can use a brush to make it straight with a blow drier!

I have hair that's neither straight nor curly and is prone to frizz, esp in the damp/humidity. I've noticed a big decrease in tendency to frizz since I started the conditioner then shampoo approach. My hair's much smoother and swingier. Might be worth a try?

Happy36 · 30/07/2014 13:44

How do you do conditioner then shampoo? Is there a trick? Doesn't it just mean you need more shampoo? I'm confused but intrigued.

Cahu5 · 30/07/2014 13:49

I noticed this when my first greys started coming through...I.couldnt really see the grey just the texture was different....

JohnCusacksWife · 30/07/2014 15:27

Happy, just do it all back to front. Wet hair, add conditioner, wait a bit, rinse, shampoo as normal, rinse et voila! Im sure there are threads on here about it. I've definitely noticed an improvement in the manageability of my hair since I started it. Worth a go!

nothruroad · 30/07/2014 15:49

I like this for the same problem.

Happy36 · 30/07/2014 16:52

Wow! I'll try it. I have dry hair so I slather on bags of conditioner usually.

I condition my hair first then use shampoo and condition again after it. It makes only a very slight difference tbh.

Thanks greengardenpixie. Do you use extra shampoo to wash out the first round of conditioner?

Greengardenpixie · 30/07/2014 18:19

No, i only put a little shampoo in as its the drying agent. I may try and skip the stage of the shampoo when i feel my hair isnt too dirty..just worry that it feels horrible after and then i have to go through the whole process.

Thanks so much. I love the idea and smell of clean hair but shampoo turns my hair into straw. I will follow your advice.

Greengardenpixie · 30/07/2014 18:22

What i have been doing is washing my hair first with conditioner..leaving it in for a good few minutes, use only a little shampoo, then use conditioner and rinse. I have been wrapping my hair in a t-shirt [plopping method] then after a few minutes unravelling it and adding some hair oil- wrapping it back up and leaving it for around 30 minutes then unravelling it. Its still got frizz but its lovely and soft!!! Need to refine now to get rid of the frizz probably using better shampoo /conditioner and products during plopping.

Its all trial and error to see what suits your hair tbh.
