Would it be complete lunacy to trim my own hair?

I need my split ends trimming. I have a huge scruffy amount of them. I am not a fan of going to the hairdressers, I know it should be a lovely relaxing experience but for some reason I just don't enjoy it. I also would not be able to go to the hairdressers until weekend as I have the kids off school. Added to which I hate paying £20 for a dry trim that takes only 10 minutes.
Does anybody else cut their own hair with decent results?
Should I go and lie down and come to my senses and wait until weekend when I can visit the hairdresser?

Noooo, posting pictures on here requires a much greater level of bravery / lunacy than trimming my own hair.

I've done this often, though my hair is wavy which makes it easier! I just resented the cost of a ten minute trim, and found I got good results myself using decent hairdressing scissors.

DONT DO IT!!!!!!

I already did and it was fine, didn't look any different than when I get a trim at the hairdressers. I only trimmed half an inch or so.

I'm a bit late but I've cut my own hair for 10 years by tying my hair into a pony tail on the top of my head and cutting it. I do it out of principle because hairdressers charge you a fortune to do something you hate. Constantly get compliments on my hair so give it a go. Hair grows Smile

Me and DH recently trimmed and coloured my hair after years of hating the hairdresser and paying £85 for a cut and colour delivered by a guy who was too busy chatting someone else up to bother getting me mags and a drink ;(. I have a jaw length layered bob and I'm very happy with it. I am really pleased that the OP managed to save ££.
