I bloody love TK Maxx - I've just "saved" £700!

Ok, so I spent more than I intended (£227...) but the full RRP would have been £925. And ok I would never have bought everything at full price, but...at least I have a vague chance of explaining to DH what a bargain I have got... Surely?

And everything was genuinely needed and proper brands, not TK Maxx own brand stuff...

I got:

  • Crew rain jacket, to replace my old anorak that lets in water (£34 down from £150)
  • Calvin Klein polo shirt, to replace my Superdry polo shirt that went into holes in the washing machine (£15 from £100)
  • silk Ralph Lauren top (£40 from £105)
  • Tommy Hilfiger blazer (£60 from £205)
  • black Nine West court shoes (£35 from £75)
  • black Cleo B wedges (£43 from £290)

See, all perfectly reasonable.....

Sounds like you got some bargains. Well done

MorrisZapp · 26/07/2014 17:34

Ooh I love Tommy Hilfiger.

fledermaus · 26/07/2014 17:35

The RRPs should be taken with a massive pinch of salt though!

FamiliesShareGerms · 26/07/2014 17:54

Well yes, fledermaus. But I still think it would have been almost criminal not to have bought them...

I know why the polo shirt was down to a yellow sticker label: it's labelled as a 42/ XL, but is clearly a S, so technically a second so would never have sold for £100.

FamiliesShareGerms · 26/07/2014 18:07

Oh, just remembered I also got a cream CK bra - £10 from £40...

GretchenWiener · 26/07/2014 18:14

agree - a lot of it is cack made to sell just at TK maxx

Vikkil1 · 26/07/2014 21:57

Most of the branded stuff sold at TK Maxx is made especially for TKM and other outlet stores. They reduce the quality massively and essentially are just selling it for those who like the cache of wearing labels and getting a bargain. I don't know the exact rule regarding the RRP, but taking with a huge pinch of salt is spot on. You would never walk into a main Ralph Lauren shop and buy any of the TKM stuff basically. Sorry, but if you like what you've bought regardless then enjoy wearing them.

WilburIsSomePig · 27/07/2014 09:04

Well I think your bargains sound great, enjoy them!

BuzzardBird · 27/07/2014 09:07

Well that's pissed on your bonfire eh OP? Grin

What matters is whether you love them or not :)

FamiliesShareGerms · 27/07/2014 09:26

Haha Buzzard! Grin

Fortunately I'm a TK Maxx veteran and am pretty good at ignoring the label and looking at the garment itself. Most of my haul is last season's rather than "special purchase", as John Lewis put it. And I do love them all anyway Smile

I once went to TKmaxx and picked a shirt which probably was a part of another item- but I looked at the price tag and it said £450-It had now been reduced to £3.!!!!!! I bought it and it is still hanging up in my wardrobe (after 6 years).

frogmore6 · 27/07/2014 15:49

Having said said that, I recently picked up a pair of Ted Baker banana heel shoes (in gold), absolutely stunning- at £15 (clearance) RRP £175.

Lighthousekeeping · 27/07/2014 15:53

Which branches have these delights.ine is rubbish.

morethanpotatoprints · 27/07/2014 15:58

TK Maxx make their profit this way.
You are sucked in to buy more than you usually would and just because the rrp is much more doesn't mean the company would get that price, so would have to put items in the sale anyway.
I used to do this but don't bother now and save even more by not buying the stuff in the first place.
If you see the con though and are happy to do it, well why not?

Lighthousekeeping · 27/07/2014 16:45

Is that the same for century 21 in New York then? That kind of puts me off going!

Deverethemuzzler · 27/07/2014 16:48

I get my Birkenstocks from TK Maxx because they cost £24.99

mirpuppet · 27/07/2014 17:45

Yes Century 21 in NYC is the same.

If you like the goods buy them as you probably will never see them again -- but take RRP with a pinch of salt.

FamiliesShareGerms · 27/07/2014 18:26

That's it mirpuppet - you do have to get things when you see them, as they might not be there next week.

We do well there as I like slightly quirky things (esp shoes) that don't necessarily sell well in store so make their way to discount stores. DH is an odd size so similarly benefits from stock that doesn't suit the norm. And I ignore labels almost totally - if it fits DH, it certainly is not "regular length"...

FamiliesShareGerms · 27/07/2014 18:28

RRP is presumably a bit like DFS sofa prices - no one sensible buys at that price..? Mind you, I've seen some lovely Stella McCartney girls clothes recently at huge mark downs, and I do reckon they will have been in store at the higher price at some point.

Lighthouse, you need to be prepared to rummage and ruthlessly discard and be prepared to walk away empty handed in order to find the hidden gems in TK Maxx

ChippyMinton · 27/07/2014 18:37

The brand stores at outlet malls have 'special' stock too, but there are some good bargains at TKMaxx.
I buy quite a lot in there. Recent bargains include Seven for all Mankind jeans, Michael Kors down coat, Spanx, Galliano handbag
plus loads of scarves, belts, shoes, tops etc
The trick is to recognise quality fabrics and finishing. If it's a label so much the better, but I wouldn't buy just because it was 'designer.
As an example, DoesmyBumLook40 was raving about Zoe Karssen t-shirts, but the quality and fabric is really poor, and not worth £20, let alone the £60 RRP.

bewleysisters · 27/07/2014 21:30

Very pleased with my £3 Petit Bateau vests and £10 Manuka yoga trousers. Have found some fab stuff over the years. Chippy is right - you just need to keep your eyes peeled for quality items.

TollgateDebs · 27/07/2014 21:34

It is about finding something different and well made. I have a number of purchases from TK from American and European brands, which I have worn countless times and are often my go to pieces. One of my coats and leather jackets has clocked up 10 years! You trip over poorly made and constructed items in too many stores now and you have to be a savvy shopper. I agree it is about what suits and you like to wear. Latest bargain a crochet dress for £8, which washes beautifully and suits my figure -what's not to like
