What is it with Michael sodding Kors?! why are the watches and bags so in demand,….

yet not the clothes!
I say this as being trying to sell a new MK garment on eBay for months now. Started the price high originally (but not high for MK!) now it's at Primark prices. No interest despite being a lovely (and seasonal) garment.
I don't get it. I thought if it was one of the 'current' names for bags and watches, it would be the same for the clothes?
but, obviously not.
I remember last Christmas everybody wanting the bag or the watch. It's not that far on in the year or is fashion really that fickle?!

I don't know about the clothes but I find the bags and the watches tacky.. And I used to wear one.

GiniCooper · 25/07/2014 16:57

I have a watch as well and I don't wear it now.
I find the label trashy and wouldn't buy any of it again.

magichandles · 25/07/2014 16:59

I have a watch and it is shocking quality for the price - the pin fell out of the bracelet so I can't wear it now, and it was just out of warranty when it happened so no one wants to know.

polyhymnia · 25/07/2014 17:01

Bags are horrendously tacky.

AlleyCat11 · 25/07/2014 17:02

I think the bags are tacky. Would associate anything else from MK with them.

Picklepest · 25/07/2014 17:02

I love MK personally but only accessories as I can make the look up out of cheaper clothes. Accessories tend to make the outfit look expensive. And if I've got spare cash I'd rather have a bag purse or glasses to wear more than say a khaki pair of trousers.....

NormHonal · 25/07/2014 17:03

I don't know how I know this, but I think the brand was bought out and now a load of MK stuff is being sold in TKMaxx i.e. No longer an "exclusive" designer brand.

Or summat.

alltoomuchrightnow · 25/07/2014 17:12

no idea it was sold in TK! yeh i find the bags tacky but the item of clothing is lovely and stylish am just too fat for it

Maybe people are looking up MK for bags etc and dont think about the clothes. Maybe you should try and put it into two categories, clothes and bags. I have done this and something i had ..boots sold and it was on both listings clothes and boots.

expatinscotland · 25/07/2014 18:35

Am abroad just now and MK has taken over!

alltoomuchrightnow · 25/07/2014 18:59

I bought a gorgeous, plain black leather MK tote 2 years ago. It had a tiny emblem thing that could be removed from the strap (which I did). Still use it now but I see the MK logo everywhere and it is... Undesirable Grin

alltoomuchrightnow · 25/07/2014 19:06

yet only last Christmas so many were lasting over the rose gold watch… not me

BlueberriesAndWine · 26/07/2014 15:01

I like some of the watches, I find the bags to be tacky looking with the loud branding.

I don't know much about the clothes range, but I did see a few pieces on the outnet last week that I might wear.

Wonc · 26/07/2014 15:05

I blame Pinterest. MK is all over it. All the bloody time.

alltoomuchrightnow · 26/07/2014 15:08

the annoying thing is, that said garment is actually (in my view) very elegant, and stylish, not tacky at all . well made and beautiful
Yet people don't hanker for the clothes

Maybe it's just me but I don't find anything tacky about this bag.

I'm afraid I find the gold letters saying Michael Kors tacky in themselves but that's probably only by association with their other products. (And because I dislike all obvious branding).

alltoomuchrightnow · 27/07/2014 01:36

yeh that's it. obvious branding. I don't want a name on show. Why give someone rich, free advertising? And often make yourself more poor to do so Grin

I may out myself but on holiday recently my aunt and a friend were totally obsessed with MK bags and sunglasses.

My darling dad said "what does MK stand for? Milton Keynes?" cue much hilarity.

From that point on any bag not sporting a MK logo has been refered to as a LB bag (Leighton Buzzard) Grin

Bambi75 · 27/07/2014 08:38

That black bag in itself is very nice but the gold Michael kors logo cheapens it. I have never understood the need to flash names and logos. It's as far removed from elegance and class as you can get.

MarshaBrady · 27/07/2014 08:39

They are in demand because they are not as expensive as other designer stuff. So if people want something with branding it's the easiest to buy.

TheCraicDealer · 27/07/2014 10:23

Yes, it's "affordable luxury". I do like a nice rapper watch, but there's something about the MK ones I don't love- the metal is too shiny, the gold is too yellow. They somehow look a bit garish and like something you'd pay £20 for in River Island, rather than £200+. Much prefer Marc Jacobs.

Their Selma Tote bags are nice and structured, very little metal or branding on them. Don't know if I'd pay £300 plus for one though.
