Best (cheapest) site to buy nail products from?

Have been recommended Barielle and Jessica cream and oils as my nails are wrecked from years of gels.
I need to soak the gels off (pure acetone? from chemist?) then try and restore my nails. The nail bed is now so thin it's incredibly painful if they get buffed /filed on the surface (I nearly passed out! seriously! and I have high pain threshold!), so no more gels from me
And if any of you with weak brittle bendy nails could recommend your nail savers!
I keep hearing about Phenomoil? (not sure of spelling)
I tend to only buy beauty products from eBay but I realise this isn't always the best place or necessarily the cheapest

in the town i live near now.. they talked me out of Shellac... She kept telling me that Shellac was rubbish and acrylics would last a lot longer.. And asked why, then, did it cost a lot more if lasted less. She didnt reply, out came the drills and I had the acrylics. (the salon was very overbooked and busy, she was v rude and short with me so i guess she just wanted the quick option) - that was my last time with drills. that was the time that finished me off really re thin nails!
I switched to CND after that for the first time in about 6 yrs

anyway the last application was by a middle aged man who I asked for no drills with. He still did the acrylics but he just buffed the nails first . lots more pain and he got really annoyed that he couldnt buff more and that it wouldn't last (they have now started peeling at the bottoms).
but it was also him who said i need a two week break from it all after these acrylics (or gels as he called them ) wore off

Why so many unqualified people from Vietnam being allowed to open rubbish nail bars, poke around with people's nails and make them bleed, offer no customer service and barely speak English?

Yet they are often lacked. Why??

handcream · 26/07/2014 22:11

Full not 'lacked'!!

PinkandTwinkly · 27/07/2014 01:51

For gawds sake if your nails are brittle stop using Mavala Scientifaque. Its hardening them, which is making them even more brittle!

Duri will strengthen them and add moisture. Sounds perfect for you.

@Handcream - the nail industry is unregulated meaning no legal minimum qualification, no requirement for liability insurance and very little recourse if you're not happy with the service.

Those nail bars are always full because they are quick, cheap and convenient. People think it's 'only' nails, how bad can it be?

Nail Techs like me hate the damage they do and the lies they tell to clients. The only thing I can do is educate my clients so they know.....

alltoomuchrightnow · 27/07/2014 15:11

Yeah I thought, 'only nails' until I nearly passed out with the pain (although over the years have ignored them cutting me, tearing skin under the nails where they've drilled behind, i did stop them cutting my cuticles though. I should have known how thin the nail beds were getting when an almost 'bruise' or semi blood blister appeared behind one of them months ago. but no one said anything and the guy just put thicker polish on it to hide it!

The bad places can be cheaper because drilling on the natural nail is quicker so they can do a shorter service and therefore fit in more clients. They pass off acrylic as gel and real hard gel has a higher price or people don't know how much gel polish costs. And the last reason is that some salons use MMA acrylic which is a type that shouldn't be used on nails. It's much, much harder so if it gets knocked it rips your nail, it is very difficult to soak off and It has a much stronger smell. The techs use it because it is very cheap and they can then lure clients with lower prices. All of this means they can do quick, cheap treatments but your nails will get ruined and you are being lied to.

handcream · 27/07/2014 18:33

I didn't realise it was unregulated! No wonder you get some middle aged man who doesn't speak English. There is no one to complain to. What about this cash only marlarky?

StepAwayFromTheEcclesCakes · 27/07/2014 20:51

may be a daft suggestion under the circumstances but after my acrylics came off I took MN advice and rubbed vaseline in my flaky nails every night, only took a week for a huge improvement and its cheap.
