Should I get my make up reviewed now I'm 38 ?

I use the words "make up" loosely as i wear tinted foundation, blusher, mascara and under eye concealer.

I feel i need to get a bit more groomed now and have used the above since I was in my twenties.

I am going back to work in August after my second ML, have 2 under 3's and want to look glossier.

Can anyone recommend a good make up counter at one of the department stores orBoots etc.

Open to suggestions as well please.

My automatic reaction these days is always - Lisa Eldridge! Do you watch her videos? She's a make-up artist and a proper one, not just a YouTube make-up artist. She regularly works for Vogue, Elle, etc. I think this is a good video to start with

Only thing about her is she doesn't really seem to advocate the use of primers and I think they can make a lot of difference in how well make-up lasts.

YouTube is a very good resource for make-up information and techniques now. Without it I would still be buying barbie pink lipstick and wondering why I looked jaundiced when I applied it! (warm skintones suit peach and coral, fair skintones suit blue pinks.)

Or some people get along better with Pixiwoo. They have a lot of videos explaining the basics. Maybe they're more 'beginner' than Lisa?

Ooh thank you I will have a look at the videos.

Bit worried now that I am fair of skin of skin and do wear peachy colours Grin

I love Lisa Eldridge! She has some great videos about makeup for work as well.

If your skin is still great, you probably don't need more makeup than you have now (why cover up lovely skin with more than tinted moisturiser!) - in my work place that would be seen as groomed and more would be frowned on as too much.

For a makeup counter I'd suggest Laura Mercier or Bobbi Brown.

You can be warm toned and still have fair skin OP. There's a rule about your vein colour on your wrists to tell if you're cool or warm. I'll have a google in a mo.

Bobbi Brown and Laura Mercier are both excellent for the natural, 'you but more polished' look. I don't find them pushy either.

Coumarin · 21/07/2014 20:46

Ok. To find skin tone, look at the veins in your wrists.

Warm toned skin = greenish looking veins.
Cool toned= blue

Also, do you suit silver or gold jewellery more? I'm cool toned and gold looks terrible on me generally.

ihatethecold · 21/07/2014 20:46

Liz Earle does lovely make up,
Also bobbi brown is great but very expensive.

GatoradeMeBitch · 21/07/2014 21:02

I'm actually quite pale too OP, I'm always 01 in foundations, but I have warm toned skin! Once you identify your tone it saves a lot of time and money. Some things I can look at now and know instantly it wouldn't work on me. It's worth working out!

Hmm def suit silver jewellery more, not suit about the colour of my veins though - waiting for DH to come back from dog walking to get his opinion Grin

Very impressed how different Lisa Eldridge looked before and after !!
