Sportswear: acceptable look for summer?

I hate summer, especially frumptastic linen which I feel compelled to wear on my bottom half. Given this and my horror of summer shoes, woukd it be acceptable, do you think, for a person of my vintage to schlep around in sporty gear? For beach/ days out and trips to shops?

I'm not remotely sporty , btw. And I'm 54.

What do you mean by sportswear? Running tights and and sweat wicking vest?

Lots of shops have light weight summer trousers, slightly harem bases, at the moment.

Verystickypaws · 21/07/2014 11:58

I hate many summer clothes too :)

GretchenWiener · 21/07/2014 11:58

no

I'm having images of cycle shorts or trackie bottoms so it's a no from me. I think even frumptastic linen would be a better option!

specialsubject · 21/07/2014 12:49

of course it is acceptable, assuming you aren't in Saudi. Better upset the fashion police than be a fashion victim.

Greengardenpixie · 21/07/2014 13:05

For goodness sake at your age you should know better and wear what the hell you like!!!! Grin
Of course its acceptable. Dont care and wear!!

springchickennolonger · 21/07/2014 13:40

Tjanks all. I was not thinking of slobbing around in trackies and a stained vest. But I've seen some nice yoga-wear sort of stuff ie loungy pants and (quite nice ) vests and naice trainers. I wss hoping the clothes would inspire me to actually BECOME a bit sportier, and fitter.

Sounds great to me :)

It sounds like you need inspiration for bottom half dressing. Loose harem / pyjama pants are everywhere atm, wear them with a tee or vest and sandals. Just the updated version of linen trousers I think. No need for joggers and trainers unless you're hitting the gym! Have a look at the Hush website for ideas of looks to emulate, particularly their trousers.

Thanks. Yes, it is a bottom half dilemma I have.

If you look at the trouser section of the New Look site there are loads of patterned andd plain joggers, what they call joggers are usually a very light material.

I've been living in these quite a bit.

For shoes you could go for espadrilles / plimsol style. There's loads of much cheaper versions of Toms around.

I also have these

But patterned. Very comfy and light
