Fillers: any horror stories?

footyfan · 21/07/2014 10:11

I'm thinking of having some fillers to my under eye area and around the sides of my mouth.

I've never had anything like this done before and am pretty nervous, but really want it done.

Has anyone got any experience of this? Were you happy with the results? Did people notice? Did you get any uneven lumps?

I'm not in the UK so recommendations for good clinics won't be any use - but any advice would be great.

Thanks!

I had some fillers, a few years back. It was quite painful (more painful than botox) and done professionally. I felt I looked puffy and strange but no-one else noticed, or if they did they didn't say!

I'm probably older than you, though. I was 50 then. Your facial scaffolding is probably better than mine, so you may not look quite so pillowish.

I just do facial exercises now. Cheaper and perhaps more effective.

I'd do it again, but this time I'd find someone who is an artist as wrll as a cosmetic doctor, iyswim.

And it goes without saying but make sure youngo to someone reputable.

You need someone really good as it's art as well as science.
They have to be done deep to avoid bumps.
I've had it 3 times. No one noticed though my face was red for a week the first time. I got rid of a crease under the eyes where my cheeks had 'dropped' due to loss of fat. I got over a year out of mine.

It does hurt- ouch! And I have a high pain threshold. Under eye- they go into the top of the cheeks is very painful.

Can recommend Dr Tracy Mountford- though know you are not in UK_ but her website is useful.

Thank you both for your experiences. It's the puffy look I'm really worried about.

I'm finding it really hard to know where to go. I looked at a local website with reviews and booked an appt at somewhere with great feedback. When I got there it was awful, so I said I didn't want to go ahead. Maybe they paid people to write them!

Sorry to be cheeky and butt in but I was wondering if you could recommend any specific facial exercises. If you have a book/ video suggestion that would be really helpful.

I use a device called Oralift. It's expensive, and needs to be fitted by a dentist. The dentist will make a cast of your bottom teeth and use the cast to make two plastic devices, which you wear as instructed. The device causes the facoal muscles to tighen and support the face better. . I've been using it for about 3 yeats, and I swear by it.

Mine cost about £800. Pricey, but a one-off cost.

I have just started the Eva Fraser DVD I have a class booked with her in September so only doing the basics at the moment.

Thank you spring chicken and zara.
The device looks interesting but the cost is eye watering.
I will have a look at Eva Fraser.

Am not convinced about EF- bought her book and the video as it was then when it first came out about 25 years ago!
There have been rumours that she has had face lifts ....Hmm

The exercises might help build muscles, but they won't rebuild collagen which is what holds the skin's contours together.

You also have to work VERY hard at them!

ZaraW · 22/07/2014 16:47

Pinfrocks there are always going to be rumours why she looks so good but nobody has been able to prove it.

I'm looking forward to meeting her in September.

Pinkfrocks · 22/07/2014 17:20

I don't see how it could be proved- the dr would have to break patient confidentiality or her friends would have to tell.
