Exfoliating/Acid Based Toners

So I've been reading a lot of Caroline Hirons and would really like to add an exfoliating toner to my range. The only problem is I am on a limited budget so can't really afford to fork out £25 for Clarins etc.

Can anyone recommend a cheaper alternative?

I love plain old soluble aspirins in a bottle of witchazel. It's done absolute wonders for my skin and can't remember the last time I had a breakout.

My daughter has tried it too but she finds it a bit too harsh on her sensitive skin. It costs a couple of pounds though so might be worth a try.

Hydraluron is hydraluronic (sp?!) acid. It is meant to make your skin hold water better and you use it under moisturiser. I notice I am dry skinned if I don't use it. It's about £25 from boots. Article below

I also use a moisturiser that has it in which is probably a cheaper way of using it - nip + fab instant radiance wrinkle fix

Disclaimer I am 30, work odd shifts and smoke too much Blush

Thanks for the suggestions. Can I ask exactly what the Claris one is called? I have looked at Claris a few times but can't work out which is the exfoliating one?

Clarins! Bloody auto correctBlush

I think it's called clarins gentle exfoliant. Orange liquid with white top

Boots botanics and time delay ranges also have exfoliating toners.

Coumarin · 21/07/2014 22:37

Cecy Yy I have found that too. I'm forever grateful for her advice re acne as I now have clear skin but the acid toners are a no no for me I think. It's just disappointing as I can see what great results others have.

I do exfoliate by having a good scrub with a flannel after oil cleansing every night.

Hydraluron gives me spots too. Hmm Stoopid skin.

Thanks goodasitgets, I shall have a look later in Boots Smile

I recently had to stop my beloved Roc Rollerball...it started to irritate my skin. Was drawn into the hype of the new No7 Serum stuff (have used their day moisturiser for a long time) and as I said earlier, I STOPPED all grainy/scratchy exfoliators. Took a no makeup selfie this morning and apart from the bald eyeballs and pallor, I'm pleased with the Clarins Brightening Toner. My skin looks much less parched, using this just once a week. As for the No7 stuff...very good IMO. I'm 52.

The REN one broke me out horribly. Wouldn't dare go near another one so I'm back on the No 7 microdermabrasion exfoliator.

If anyone's considering the bravura toner, just pls note it's 100mls for £8.39. The pixi one is 250mls for £16. So the Pixi one is actually better value!

Smitten1981 · 22/07/2014 23:48

I've used the Clarins Exfoliating toner and have just run out. Haven't really noticed a difference in my skin to be honest. Have just ordered the Pixi Glow Tonic this evening to see of that's any better results wise. I love Caroline Hirons lots.
