Bunion sufferers???

It's summer time and time to put our ugly bunion feet on show in flip flops, open toe sandals aargh! My husband playfully calls it my 6th toe - nice!

I have some research to do on women between 30-60 years old who suffer with bunions - I just want to know types of shoes you wear for work, going out etc

if anyone can help please let me know!!! Thanks in advance xxx

I am a bunion sufferer. I wear fly london shoes and boots. Most of them are wide fitting styles. I dont like pointed toe shoes so have always preferred the rounded toe. I also have clarks brogues for work. In the summer i wear crocs around the house but do have DR Martens sandals which also are good for my feet. My feet are not my best feature sadly. Oh and im 46.

I often don't wear shoes - never have, but don't go barefoot as much as I once did, because they don't like it at work. I do usually have no shoes under my desk, though. It think half a lifetime of being barefoot is why my bunions aren't as bad as my mother's were at this age (and yes, I am blaming your genes, mother. Your sister has the same problem.)

I wear open toed sandals - current ones are a few years old, and don't know where they're from. I also have Teva walking sandals for non-work occasions. The rest of my shoes are just wide-fit.

I hate shoe shopping in any case, so don't ask me which shops, as I can't remember when I last bought any. Think they were from M&S though. Have also bought online. Er, can't remember that site, either.

I'm not very helpful, actually.

I'm loving saltwater sandals at the moment

Finbar · 20/07/2014 22:14

Gabor pumps (not the real old lady styles!) - nice deep toe coverage

madmomma · 20/07/2014 22:15

I'm rocking a fuck-ugly pair of fitflops atm. Even my clarks brogues are rubbing (but I've not tried a wide fit).

So many gorgeous sandals about that would only showcase how hideous my feet are (also have hammer toes) :(((

I wear sandals regardless of my bunions as long as they dont hurt me. I dont find too much difficulty finding shoes actually as long as they arent narrow looking. I dont wear pointy types so im fine. I dont really like them. I am more of a clumpy shoe person anway...jjust as well. I dont and never have done dainty feet really! I love chunky shoes.

waves hello bunion ladies, I wear a pair of Birkies (the 3 strap kind) virtually all the time in summer, I don't have many smart options and usually end up wearing the same things to weddings/work/the beach. Any smart shoe suggestions?

salvadory · 20/07/2014 23:19

Hi I have awful bunions on both feet but this summer most sandals are clunkier than usual so have been great for hiding. I have a pair of Birkenstock Arizona (but the Madrid sandal also is good at bunion hiding if you prefer something slightly more delicate).
Isabel marant rip offs the Jolene is back in stock at Dune and they're lovely. I have a pair of jewelled sliders from h&m that are pretty and a pair of white river island cross over slides that were £15 in the sale.
I'm 41 and hate sensible shoes but try not to expose the bunions if I can help it.
If I'm out in the evening I'd rather wear heeled courts (whistles do nice ones)than strappy bunion exposing sandals) although in the past I found that caged heeled sandals whilst not bunion hiders, are busy enough to distract from the bunion.
I'm lucky in that mine don't hurt too much but am sorely tempted to get them removed once my kids are a bit older just because they're so ugly.

Mabelface · 20/07/2014 23:25

Docs are your friends. Sandals and shoes. I had a bunion removed 7 weeks ago and it has been fairly difficult. My foot looks better though.

StrawberryMouse · 20/07/2014 23:30

I have one on each foot but I don't shy away from exposing them. If they are sore then obviously I avoid anything tight or restrictive but apart from that I carry on regardless.

Purplewithred · 20/07/2014 23:31

I had both bunions fixed a year ago. Now wear anything I want at all. Grin

Hi! Long time lurker & long time bunion sufferer! This year I've discovered the Heavenly Feet brand - boots & shoes, Birkenstocks & Tamaris sandals for dressier occasions.

justjuanmorebeer · 21/07/2014 00:06

Too young at 26 but I have them too. Both sides. Hate it. Are they hereditary? I'll blame my Mum if so. I live in birkenstocks or havianas. Yes my feet are gross but I need to be comfy. I squeeze into pumps or brogues for work. How on earth do you get surgery? I have this problem since early childhood, will it just get worse? They get sore and hot often - normal?

This is all great! Keep them coming ladies! It's interesting which ones of you are not bothered about having them on show! I'm always stressed about finding pretty shoes, I'm going York races this weekend and dreading trying to find some (plus I'm pregnant so double trouble aka swollen feet!)
