my hair is half way down my back. no fringe. it is straight, black, fairly fine but lots of it.

what to do. go really short? or go half way up? i am sick of toddler swinging off my hair. i need it wash and go.

please make suggestions.

ps don't suggest anything jennifer aniston/ or the other one off 'Friends' - kudrow? - they do my head in.

I think initially no shorter than shoulder lenth as may be too drastic - you can always go even shorter in a couple of months time. Perhaps a graduated fringe to one side which blends in as less drastic than a full on fringe and if you really hate it will take no time to grow out. perhaps a bit like charlotte churchin this pic hair

kiskidee · 13/09/2006 13:27

fio, i am sick if walking into a hairdressers and then walk out feeling like they have done the minimum to separate me from my money.

that is why i haven't been back since February and need a new hairdressers - and a new haircut.

it sounds nice already (jealous)! how about a long layered fringe, or blunt bob

kiskidee · 13/09/2006 13:29

charlotte is all sexy and buxom in that pic. i am skinny, no boobs and my hair would just fall sleek if its cut that way. i have never successfully done the hair products and blow dry thing in the past.

kiskidee · 13/09/2006 13:35

yes the charlotte church is nice. will it do wash and go and still look good?

Now I know you've said not like anyone from friends but it does sound as if your hair is a bit like Courtney Cox so how about this sort of thing hair Sounds really nice how it is mind you. If you are having problems with a hairdresser then best to take a photo in with you.

kiskidee · 13/09/2006 13:49

no don't want to do fringe because you have to get them trimmed regularly and i wear glasses a lot. thanks incy

The charlotte Church style is just a bob with a graduated fringe - so fairly easy as you just blow dry and then when almost dry style by brushing under with a big round brush. You could always cheat and dry upside down and then straighten with GHD's.

kiskidee · 13/09/2006 13:51

what is a ghd?

OP posts:
incy · 13/09/2006 13:53

If no fringe wanted I just think a one length bob perhaps with some graduated layers around the side if you feel brave - you could start with shoulder length and go shorter if you like it. Your hair sounds a lovely colour but when hair is very long I find you tend to just tie back so a shorter bob would show it off.

incy · 13/09/2006 13:55

GHD's are hair straighteners. I have fairly straight hair but I just dry my hair upside down and then run through the hair staighteners to neaten it up. It is a lazy way to style!

southeastastra · 13/09/2006 13:55

ghd (expensive (overly priced imho) hair straighteners you don't sound like you need them though!

LiliLaTigresse · 13/09/2006 14:02

I have the same cut as Charlotte Church in that pic, I just realised
my hair is very dark, and I find it a very easy style, but I have wavy hair so minimal styling needed for me
I think you should go for a bob, but not a blunt all one length one, a more gentle cut, which is what's in fashion now anyway, and maybe a kind of swept to the side fringe (can you tell I'm not a hairdresser!)
than you can make it all super groomed or more relaxed like in the picture

kiskidee · 13/09/2006 15:31

i like the charlotte church one as i can cheat and keep using my cute bandanas and its long enough to tuck it behind my ear.. plus the fringe is not heavy maintenance like the courtney cox one.

huum thanks for the advice. planning to go in on friday night.

oh, i have a hair straightener for 2 years and have used it about 2x.

What about the new barmaid in Corrie, Kym Marsh?? She has got a straight bob, no fringe and she clips up the front with pretty clips that would keep it out of your face.

kiskidee · 13/09/2006 15:41

don't watch soaps so will have to google her.

kiskidee · 13/09/2006 15:44

i think i will have to watch corrie to see what you mean.

I like the Charlotte Chruch hair do in that picture and I have a similar shape face to her.. Do you think you need really thick hair and loads of time to make it work though? soryr, I probably should have started a new thread.

kiskidee · 13/09/2006 15:46

no mascara, hijack away. i wanna listen in.

Flumpybumpy · 13/09/2006 15:48

If I knew how to do links I would post one for you. Go to the ITV website and look on the Corrie page her character is called Michelle.

It looks very sleek and shiny (like the girl on the Head and Shoulders ad) so you would probably need straightners.

FullOfTestosterone · 13/09/2006 15:52

I think someone that has really nice hair and is mostly thin looks really nice with an assymetrical bob. You know one that is shorter in the back and kind of makes a longer end in the fronts...

kiskidee · 13/09/2006 15:52

are you a bloke, testosterone?

I had all one length long hair, was down to my bra strap at the back. I have had it layered, all over, quite short on top with longer sides and have still got nice shoulder length hair that has wave. It's great and I love it. My hair isn't very thick but it looks nice. I have no feathery bits going onto my face, it's shorter on top so that doesn't happen. i wash and dry it every day and do nothing else and it looks good. I used to always be putting it up and hairspraying it and it drove me mad because it needed washing every day and took ages to dry. I can go out in the wind and rain and it still looks nice instead of lanky. Have it layered ! Go short on top though, it makes all the difference. It looks kind of 70's but I don't care.

FullOfTestosterone · 13/09/2006 15:55

nope!
