Crocs sandals or havianas for holiday?

I know that both are crimes againnst style and beauty but I bought these crocs for dd's the other day but in really bright colours and I love them. Or havianas, mainly for holiday beach and walking about in, need to able to get wet, be really comfy and not look too crappy.

I'm still partial to Havaianas but think that Crocs is a crime against humanity. Sorry, I'm not sure that helps!

GobblersKnob · 20/07/2014 11:01

Crocs are super comfy but really do look fully, depends whether you mind or not, havianas murder my feet, I have one yellow pair that are okay, but have them in other colours too and they are really awful, should throw them out really.

I find Reef or Rocketdog flip flops insanely comfortable and both can usually be found cheaply online, Amazon or similar.

Greengardenpixie · 20/07/2014 11:12

Croc crocs crocs the whole way. So comfy and I like how they look Grin

ZenNudist · 20/07/2014 12:01

Love my new Havanas. Decided worth it for beach/pool use as they seem better quality than the next/m &s ones. Bought navy though and think they show dirt less .

ThisBitchIsResting · 20/07/2014 14:47

Havaianas aren't a crime against style and beauty! They are so simple and minimal, they go with loads of outfits in summer. Just don't go for the multicoloured / patterned ones. A simple colour like gold or navy will do you all summer and show off a pedi nicely.

Crocs on the other hand... Hmm

Lweji · 20/07/2014 14:55

I love those crocs!

I would say either and neither. Either for the beach (and journey to and from), neither for out of the beach.

HellonHeels · 20/07/2014 16:22

Havaianas aren't a crime! Get a nice plain pair in a colour that won't get grubby looking after a bit of wear. I find they take a bit of breaking in of the feet until I get used to the toe post. A compeed plaster between the toes helps.

Havanas for on beach/ pool

Birkenstocks for actually walking about.

scaevola · 20/07/2014 17:13

I have crocs that I wear to the beach because I'd want to go rock pooling and swimming/paddling in the sea (I have a fear of stepping on creatures, and also dislike stepping on stones). I wouldn't be able to do either of those in havianas.

If you don't do either, then get whichever you like the look of better.

Romeyroo · 20/07/2014 17:18

My DD had crocs, they actually looked lovely and she liked them; but I say had because they shrunk after two days on holiday. She wore them to the beach but not in the water and the soles buckled in and they don't fit. I am not pleased as crocs are not cheap.

Ended up buying her flip flops for about nine euros which lasted the rest of the holidays.

HelpMeGetOutOfHere · 20/07/2014 17:47

What crocs were those that shrunk? Dd is 8 and has the traditional style crocs in the crocbands colourways and a pair of sandals. I have crocs flipflops horrible name of sexi but they are comfy and can walk in them for miles great for the beach etc.

I have havaianas as well and whilst they are ok for walking to and from the beach unless you get the ones with the band that goes round the back of your foot they are too 'flippy' and they make my feet ache for long distances.

Romeyroo · 20/07/2014 18:28

It was Shayna flat ones in black. I am going to take them back and see what the official explanation is.

knickernicker · 20/07/2014 18:36

Crocs are fine for children and a crime for adults unless worn for related reasons.

viagarafalls · 20/07/2014 18:38

You can wash those flip lops can't be aresed to check spelling in the washing machine at 60 degrees and they come up a treat! Smile

HelpMeGetOutOfHere · 20/07/2014 19:39

Definitely take them back. Crocs aren't cheap and are brought to be practical.

SpringItOn · 20/07/2014 19:45

Crocs are more likely to melt than shrink surely?

Crocs are brilliant shows for a holiday. I've got a bright green fake pair I bought while away last years they are still going strong.

All this 'crime against humanity' stuff is so sheepish and silly.

They are comfortable, waterproof, cheap, easy to weta non slip, easy to clean etc etc.

They might not be beautiful but for a holiday, gardening, dog walking.. Who cares?

ditavonteesed · 20/07/2014 20:36

well I went for the flip flops in the end, not even havianas as I saw a pair of another brazilian brand for a fiver in TKMaxx and then couldnt bring myself to stump up £24 for flip flops. I tried those crocs on and they looked like granny shoes on me, which is a shame as they look really nice on dds.

Romeyroo · 20/07/2014 20:52

I know, the shrinking is not what I expected. The heat was not even extreme, about 28 degrees, but they have definitely shrunk because they don't sit flat on the ground anymore, they curve up, and most importantly, they are smaller and no longer fit DD when she had growing room before and her other shoes still fit. Completely bizarre. I initially thought she had somehow managed to mix her shoes with another child as that seemed more logical, but the sizing was her size. Completely bizarre.

Anyway, enough of my derailment.

specialsubject · 20/07/2014 22:08

havainas have that cheap plastic toe post and will give you an instant blister. Get something with a fabric toe post.

a pair of cheap water shoes are good for rockpooling etc. Sold at Aldi and Tesco.

Romeyroo · 21/07/2014 12:24

If anyone is interested, the man in the Crocs shop said that crocs can warp if you leave them in the sun. Obviously on a beach holiday, you may leave them in the sun, so I thought other posters might like to know this. He suggested making sure they were covered with a towel or something like that. I would not have thought this, we thought they would be perfect for the beach.

He did replace them with a new pair, though, which was nice.

HelpMeGetOutOfHere · 21/07/2014 15:03

Good that you got a replacement pair. How rubbish that they can warp though.

splodgeness · 21/07/2014 15:07

Havianas are over rated IMHO. I find them v uncomfortable. Mine rubbed across the front of the foot and gave me a blister. Gave them to my sister!
