Loreal Casting Lightening Gellee, anyone dared try it yet?

I saw it advertised this evening, and I am so hoping it's as good as the John Frieda Beach Blonde gel from the 90's (the sadly discontinued one)

Does anybody dare try it?
My hair has a tendency to go orange with these things (remember Sun-In?)

Its got ok reviews on Boots.com but I would rather believe Mumsnet!

It's actually okay. Made a noticeable difference (a good noticeable) to my sister's hair and I've used it on my dark blonde coloured hair just around my face and it has given me subtle highlights. I will be repurchasing!

rockpink · 20/07/2014 10:49

Still heat activated like the JF one?

Does it frazzle your hair like sun in used too? I'm also a teen of the 80's & remember it leaving awful white patches on my fingertips, it was basically domestos in a spray Shock

CointreauVersial · 20/07/2014 11:47

Ahh, Sun-In....All photos of me from the 6th form show a mop of orange hair. I thought I looked the business.

hellymelly · 20/07/2014 16:48

I have just ordered some, will report back! Wasn't sure which shade to order, there was no advice, so ordered the two darker ones. (Not sure if you order the colour you are, or the colour you want).

rockpink · 20/07/2014 20:02

Ooo I'll be looking forward to hearing your results!

ooh very interested to hear how you get on! love these things! Wink

AuntieStella · 21/07/2014 11:48

Watching too, as I might have a go but have (very old) previous highlights, and am a bit worried about what might happen.

wrapsuperstar · 21/07/2014 12:01

Worked for me. I have hair that is naturally dark brown with a reddish tint. Ran it through with my fingers (have done on both dry and wet hair), activated it with a hair dryer and started to see a noticeable difference after 3rd application. Gave me golden-coppery 'highlights' but to be honest looked lighter all over too. Bit sticky and stinky but disappears after a wash and doesn't seem to damage hair.

Giving JF lightening spray a go today on a picnic, I shall try the Loreal Casting next time!

Ok so I have tried it, the one for light brown to dark blondes. I have light brown hair, so wasn't sure whether to use the other one for mid to light brown, I have them both but boldly started with the lighter one, as there is no help on the box as to how to choose a shade. Anyway I have put it on twice, but washed it off after a shortish while , before it was quite dry, as I needed to go out . I only put it on my (longish) roots as I have grown out hightlights on the rest, and I don't want them getting any paler. There is now a very very slight difference in colour, my roots are a wee bit lighter than they were. Think in the sun, or if you slept in it, there would be a stronger difference. So far it looks totally natural, but it is only a very slight shift. Will update as I apply more...

rockpink · 28/07/2014 18:21

Sleep in it? I might try that! :)

hellymelly · 28/07/2014 20:06

I think you might need to make sure it was dry, to save your pillowcases. Although white ones would be fine.

rockpink · 28/07/2014 21:56

Oh it's definitely dry, been on hours now :) will report back tomorrow

Greengardenpixie · 28/07/2014 23:15

Sounds interesting. Can you use it on already coloured hair?

rockpink · 28/07/2014 23:23

Eee I hope so! I just have it on my roots at the mo. If my highlights get any blonder I'll be white haired.. Confused

OP posts:
rockpink · 31/07/2014 09:46

Ah....absolutely no difference, nothing at all. :(

hellymelly · 31/07/2014 13:42

Which one did you use rockpink? And what colour is your hair? I blasted mine with a hairdrier yesterday but it looks much the same, very very slight shift in shade but not that anyone would notice, it still looks like my natural hair but has a bit more of a golden shimmery highlight to it in the sun.

badfurday · 01/08/2014 09:00

I got excited about this too and it did nothing at all! I was a sun-in fan in the 90's too, at least that worked. Waste of time. Am back to garnier olia in 10.00 shade which is amazing.

rockpink · 02/08/2014 13:48

I used 02 shade for Dark Blonde to Light Blonde Hair. My hair is definitely the shade at the left of the "chart" on the box.
Bring back JF Beach Blonde!!
