Just grow?
When i was young, i never thought about shaving it. I guess i am from an Italian background and it just wasnt the done thing. Part of me thinks..why should i shave??? Its meant to be there. I couldnt do it and feel really embaressed if its growing in..but it annoys me as everyone has it and its meant to be.
What do you think?
Do you shave it in the winter?

It's worth recognising though that sometimes the things we 'like' are things we have been conditioned to like.

OneLittleToddleTerror · 19/07/2014 21:26

I don't use sanitary towels so don't have that problem Grin. I focus them smelly and gross.

Let's not stray to the lady garden. I'm sure it's a habit thing. I'm happy to have a trimmed garden but I don't see why it would be itchy to have a shaven one. Just like legs and underarms. I won't wax though because I can't stand waxing my pits or legs either.

Greengardenpixie · 19/07/2014 21:30

Yes, the thread was about underarms as i remember a while back some star exposed hairy pits and it was like all hell let loose!!

I've also been "conditioned" to like central heating, hot running water and am partial to the occasional greggs sausage roll. None of which are as nature intended but all nice - to lots of people anyway.

Maybe when I'm too old to bend over to shave anything I'll be like Elsa and "let it go".

Only1scoop · 19/07/2014 21:45

Eeeuuuuu no has to go ....don't think it's ever been more than 2 mm

IWannaHoldYourHand · 19/07/2014 21:46

I don't shave anywhere. My skin is too sensitive, I end up with dry, itchy, sore skin.

I don't think I smell.

BlahBlahYeahYeah · 19/07/2014 21:53

Grin @ being an old elsa with a huge lady garden GrinGrinGrin

Fairylea · 19/07/2014 21:54

Ha! @ blah and old hairy Elsa. .. I shall get myself one of those mega sought after Disney dresses and flap about town with my hairy legs and hairy pits :)

Ziggyzoom · 19/07/2014 22:10

But men and women enjoy heating, running water and sausage rolls equally (I can hold my own in the sausage roll stakes Wink). When did it become 'more comfortable' for women to have smooth legs/ underarms etc, but not men?

santamarianovella · 19/07/2014 22:10

No sorry! I could never ever let anything go, I lasered my underarms, and down below, I like an all over smooth look, and of course hairy underarms smell, sweat sticks to the hair!

Pinkfrocks · 19/07/2014 23:01

Don't you think a bald fanny looks odd though? I'd hate it. It must get really prickly if you don't do it daily. what a faff.

blueshoes · 19/07/2014 23:01

I was never that hairy under the arms to begin with but after I had my dcs, hardly any hair grows there now. I imagine it is the hormonal changes caused by pregnancy. So if I left it grow, nothing much happens.

My pits are shaved in winter (but they are covered up) then when summer approaches I let them grow a bit (still covered) in preparation to wax.
Then they are waxed furiously until I cover them again.
Wink

TheWomanTheyCallJayne · 20/07/2014 00:49

Hair draws sweat away not makes it worse

I'm still not brave enough though
Anyway I find plucking the hair therapeutic Blush

Pangaea · 20/07/2014 01:03

No, i'd never not shave. In fact, I'd happily laser every single hair on my entire body off.

TakeMeUpTheNorthMountain · 20/07/2014 01:04

I shave the pits because when the hair grows too long, it's gets stuck in my under arm fat
There's a pretty image for ya

The rest I leave.I'm not bothered, Dp isn't bothered.if the pubes start getting too Long, I give them a trim, nothing worse than sitting on your pubes and pulling your own hair.

FrancesFarmer · 20/07/2014 01:51

I don't bother shaving my armpits usually. Armpits look pretty ugly whether shaved or not.

I didn't think this was unusual.

nooka · 20/07/2014 02:12

I very rarely shave my armpits, and when I do I always regret it. I don't have smelly armpits so it doesn't make very much difference on that front, but I find that when I do shave it gets horribly sticky under my arms and can feel quite sore. Then when the hair starts to grow back the stubble is prickly. Full grown (perhaps 2cm max) the hair is quite soft and you can't feel it anymore than you feel the hair on your head unless you touch it.

I do feel very self conscious about showing it though, which annoys me, it's such a social stigma.

Pangaea · 20/07/2014 05:50

nooka Maybe some hair lightening cream would work for you? Could keep the hair but them being blonde/translucent might avoid the social aspects of having underarm hair, as they'd be much less noticeable.

BOFster · 20/07/2014 06:35

I don't have dark hair, so if it grows, it isn't very noticeable and I can easily leave it. That said, I find the flash of dark underarm hair on a woman quite erotic- perhaps because it's taboo? But maybe we are programmed to, I don't know.

nooka · 20/07/2014 06:39

I tried bleaching my hair once long ago and it wasn't a success. I have very pale skin and very dark hair so I suspect it would need to be more powerful than would be good for me, underarms being quite sensitive.

When I have my (head) hair beached it always takes ages, and I think underarm hair is a bit more like pubes, so quite tough I imagine. It's not really a big deal as I tend not to show my upper arm/shoulders too much because I burn easily too.

WildBillfemale · 20/07/2014 08:49

I let all my body hair grow whilst backpacking once, it did make me feel surprisingly at home in my skin if that makes sense. Unfortunately apart from underarm hair everything else just kept on growing, it didn't reach a certain length and stop. I could feel my leg hairs blowing in the wind and my bush - a full on Judith, made it look and feel like I was wearing a cod piece in my pants, That I found uncomfortable after a while.
Removed leg and underarm hair and trimmed bush again when I could but I did enjoy the experiment.

Pinkfrocks · 20/07/2014 09:52

If you use a roll on or stick anti perspirant is it not harder to get it on the skin if you are hairy?
DH has the hairiest pits ever and he uses an aerosol spray which I suppose blasts through the jungle. But roll ons etc don't work because he just rolls them over the hair and not much gets onto the skin.
Weirdly, he loves women with hairy pits - goes wild if I have a bit of stubble. And also loves a full soft bush.

Greengardenpixie · 20/07/2014 09:59

Sometimes I get a rash under my arms too when I shave. It can really itch. My dh also finds public hair a turn on??
