do any of you wear non underwired bras?

I have tried the proper bra fitting measurements and found out that I am a 36E (previously thought I was a 40b!), but I still find bras really uncomfortable. I have a couple of non underwired nursing bras that I put on if I want to be comfy at home and they are utter bliss.

Have any of you decided to wear non underwired bras? Do you think you can still get a good shape in them?

I think part of the problem is that I have quite wide set boobs with a lot of breast tissue at the sides. It doesn't help that I am overweight, but I'm working on that.

Any recommendations for super comfy wireless bras would be great too, unless I am actually the only one with this issue. In that case I shall just retreat into my corner and pretend I never asked!

you know what I'm going to ask here but have you tried scooping all that side boob inwards so that it's properly contained within the wires, rather than the wires resting on it?

I'm around a 32GG which is a roughly equivalent cup size to you and I bought some non wired bras for lounging about the house but the problem for me (aside from the poor shape) is that they don't support from the band in the same way so after a while you can feel a lot more strain in the neck and shoulders. So in that respect they're actually less comfortable than a wired bra.

Sorry, I know that's not what you were hoping to hear.

Koothrapanties · 18/07/2014 17:48

I scoop! But it seems to slip back out when I move no matter how tight the band is. Then I end up with awful side boob flab hanging out. It's not a good look!

yes, me!
hate wires with a passion. 'only' 34c here (properly measured) and I hate that so few wireless models are available.

treaclesoda · 18/07/2014 17:59

this looks promising?

Fairylea · 18/07/2014 18:02

I hate all bras full stop. I only ever wear one when I go out and the minute I'm home off it comes... and I've been fitted correctly by all the methods etc and bravissimo (30GG / H). I just seriously dislike them.

I like to freeboob :)

Koothrapanties · 18/07/2014 18:03

I'm not alone!

Have you tried lots of different style wired bras? I can't seem to find a style that suits my shape at all. Sad

Fairy I would freeboob constantly, but I have rather erm... prominent nipples, so it's a necessity really!

Treacle I like it! It's just working out if it's the model's boobs that are naturally that perky or if it actually gives good shape. Hmm.

OP posts:
Fairylea · 18/07/2014 18:07

Oh I have perky nipples too... I fail to care :) unless of course dd aged 11 has a friend round, then I wear a bra and count down the minutes until the friend has gone!

I'm tempted to try a genie bra - some on ebay super cheap. Might be a compromise!

TheReluctantCountess · 18/07/2014 18:08

I wear non-wired. I just can't wear the wired ones - the wire digs in under my armpits.

treaclesoda · 18/07/2014 18:38

TheReluctant I get the digging in under the armpits thing too, but only with certain brands. It's something to do with how high up on your chest your breasts actually begin apparently!

Koothrapanties · 18/07/2014 19:20

Treacle any idea of the best style to try if you have that problem?

All I really know for certain is that personally I can't wear Panache bras because they stab me under the arms. Which is a real shame because they give me a really good shape. I find Cleo bras ok, even though they are (I think) made by Panache, as they are a totally different shape and don't come up anywhere near as far at the sides.

Koothrapanties · 18/07/2014 20:28

Is it bad that I have never heard of either of those brands? I need to shop more, its official.

Itscurtainsforyou · 19/07/2014 08:33

I also find that with panache bras! Only brand I wear is Freya, although when I was pregnant I wore Royce nursing bras that were pretty good. Sometimes I still wear them for the same reason as the OP.

Showy · 19/07/2014 08:37

I've never born wired bras. I'm a 28/30 E so have my own problems getting bras but just try every time I pass a bra shop and have a decent collection.

catnipkitty · 19/07/2014 08:57

I gave up on underwired bras last year, hated them, soooo uncomfortable. I now wear M&S sporty-type bras. Not partic sexy, and I can't wear a low cut top but so much better.

mycatlikestwiglets · 19/07/2014 09:02

I bought that Freya Deco one to wear during pregnancy and still occasionally wear it now. It gives brilliant shape - I also have fairly wide set boobs and have the same problem with scoopage slipping back out (I'm a 30E). That one keeps it all in and makes my boobs look amazing. I'd say it comes on the small side though so you may need to go up a cup size.

Koothrapanties · 19/07/2014 09:27

Looks like the freya one might be worth a go then.

Thanks for making me feel less like a freak. I think I will experiment with wireless bras and see how it goes.

I just want to be comfortable!

I prefer non wired bras where possible. I don't have much flesh on my rib cage, and I think this is why wired bras were uncomfortable for me. I had breast implants a few years ago (so even though I now have a normal-looking bust, my rib cage is still really skinny) and they suggest you stick to non wired bras til the surgery has healed properly, and I've carried on with this, as it's just more comfy.

Obviously your nicer/sexier bras all have wires, but for day-to-day wear, I have M&S non wired t shirt bras. I couldn't sit at my desk all day in a wired bra!!!!
