don't bother. Does nothing that water doesn't do.

all the talk about closing pores is beauty babble.

I use an exfoliating (chemical) one after cleansing and before moisturiser
Specifically bravura calendula or clarins gentle exfoliant

Toner - pointless. Just a load of alcohol that feels 'tight' as it evaporates. Usually with some essence of soothing flowers bullshit in the advertising.

Exfoliating toner - useful. One with glycolic or salicylic acid in. Clears up spots and blackheads, exfoliates giving you 'glow'. gets shot of oil.

I don't use one. I don't really find I need one plus I'm not convinced they do anything if I'm honest. I double cleanse and then moisturise and find that's enough

Clinique exfoliating toners work well with my oily acne prone skin

I use Pixi Glow Tonic which contains acids to exfoliate the skin. It does seem to work - my skin is completely clear of sebaceous filaments.

I use it after cleansing the skin and before moisturising.

I like witch Hazel.

I like Shu Uemura 'hydrating fluid' which is a toner with hyaluronic acid, which plumps the skin a little and feels lovely. It might exfoliate too, bloody better do magic for the price. I don't really know exactly what it does but it doesn't have alcohol in it. The problem is that 'toner' just means some sort of liquid you whack on your face after washing and before moisturising - so it might have anything in it. The useful ingredients afaik are exfoliators or hydrators, or a combo. Old fashioned toners are just alcohol to properly cleanse off the creamy gunk you attempted and failed to remove your makeup with. If you wash your face properly in the first place you don't need that sort of a toner. But if you choose one that has genuinely useful ingredients then it can be a nice addition to a routine. Although I prefer a cream for my exfoliating at the moment - a glycolic acid one from Bravura I wear at night.
