Has anyone been to Vegas? What did you wear?

Questions

  1. what did you wear during the day - I'm assuming jersey maxi skirts, vests, shorts general casual stuff will be fine? How cold are the casinos? Will I need a jumper in my handbag?
  2. how dressed up are people in the evening? We're not likely to end up in Hakkasan, but we'll be in bars/restaurants.
  3. anyone seen any nice nautical bikini?
  4. Has anyone been to any of the day-clubs? Is it full of beautiful young things? Will my 30s toned ass be out of place?

Was there 10 years ago, so can't vouch for current fashions but it is very very HOT outside and generally pretty COLD indoors. You will need a jumper or a cardi or you could be chilly. It was very casual out and about but I can't give any idea of clubs/bars as we went with young children so didn't go to any.

I have never seen so many morbidly obese people as I did there :( You will feel sylph like there.

Anything goes, from shorts and a vest to ballgowns even at night in the casino's. YY to a cardigan, the air con is a killer. Have fun, wish I were going.

I would not worry about what you wear in Vegas

the whole place is a style-free land that time forgot

casual, casual and more casual

even the mega rich people look cheap

Leopard skin velour lounge wear and a blue fluffy rinse seemed to be prevalent at the MGM grand when we went. Grin

Seriously the one thing about US tourists is that it's acceptable to be very casual.

I went in my 30's in November and we wore jeans mainly whilst wondering the strip and exploring, Hoover dam, Outlet mall etc.

We ate in some pretty nice restaurants and clubs so I took some heels, dressier tops and skirts/trousers but it still amazed me how casual others were. Apart from all the wedding dresses of course.

Hotels are air-conned to ridiculous levels, and very dark. The idea being that you totally lose track of time.

Excellent. I love a bit of leopard print!

Anything goes in Vegas from totally casual to full on evening gowns, and random brides walking around on their way to get married.

We went in August and it was the hottest place I've ever been (and I used to live I the Middle East...), but definitely take a cardigan / jacket as the casinos are freezing.

As above, but take comfy shoes. You end up doing a hell of a lot of walking because the hotels are so vast.

I thought it was a lot more casual than I expected. I bought a hot pink sequin dress before we went because I knew I'd never wear it at home. I wore it the night we went to see Zumanity and felt massively overdressed! Got rid of it as soon as we came home thinking if it's too much for Vegas it's too much for anywhere!

We didn't do day club pool party type things we hired a cabana instead but we saw what people were wearing I had nice swim wear with matching cover ups, if I wanted to go to the pool party type things I would have just needed to wear big heels or wedges with that type of thing.

I went early September I did find the heat bearable because it's dry. In the day I just wore linen trousers or cut off jeans with vest tops. I wore flip flops and they ruined my feet from the walking!

missmartha · 14/07/2014 09:30

People wear just anything really. Wearing comfy shoes is very good advice, you'll walk a lot.

It's very hot in the summer, wear factor 50, but you probably won't need to go out unless you're using a pool.

Inside the hotels it's comfortable. you won't need a cardigan at all. You will if you go in the winter, when it gets cold.

BlairWaldorfLovesShopping · 14/07/2014 09:30

I was there 6 weeks ago. During the day I would wear either a sundress or shorts with top or t-shirt, and in the evening always a short dress or a short playsuit. I didn't take any heels but I did want to dress up in the evenings (the whole point, surely!) and I found that if I hadn't gone back to my hotel and changed by about 7pm I started to feel self conscious as everyone else was dressed up for going out by then.

I do think where you are staying makes a difference though, in terms of the dressed-up-ness.

I feel the cold and took a cardigan, but I never wore it, it was fine. But maybe the aircon will be colder in high summer Wink

For 3) have a look here - sorry don't know your budget and shape etc.

For 4) I didn't go to any beach clubs but you will be bombarded by ads for Drai's beach club when you get there, it's the newest one and did look fantastic.

Have fun :)

grumblepuss · 14/07/2014 11:04

Thank you everyone.
I suspected it would be casual and anything would go during the day.

As for the bikini - maybe £50? Needs to be bra sized. No hips with boobs small size 12. Navy colour is good, pale with red/ginger hair.

When are you going? I've been twice and the temperature varied drastically.

WallyBantersJunkBox · 14/07/2014 11:07

I found an ace bikini on ASOS for my huge norks, in a royal blue, might be worth looking at their website?

grumblepuss · 14/07/2014 11:11

Swoosh - middle of sept

It'll be hot, hot, hot! I wouldn't think you'd need to take cardigans etc every night UNLESS you are planning to spend lots of time inside, the aircon can be very cold.

Have fun, my favourite place.Envy Grin
