Please advise - whites turned grey in the wash

I have a black and white long dress which I put in the wash with some whites this morning, thinking it would be OK with white being in the dress. The dress has come out perfect, with the white parts of it being gleaming white. However, the other whites have turned grey, including a favourite cardie of mine. Is there any way I can get these things back pure white again or is it now a lost cause?

You can buy colour-catchers which you put into the wash with the grey stuff and it draws out the dye. Try somewhere like Robert Dyas.

Thanks for your reply, however I would like advice more on how to get my whites that have turned grey white again. I may get a colour catcher to use in future for when I wash the black and white dress but what I want to restore the other whites back again.

Buy the stuff called something like glo white. It comes in a packet like the colour catchers and is supposed to turn things white again.

Something like this. Have a look in the laundry section at the supermarket and you will find the whiteners.

Wash again with colour catchers (some dye will come out of the grey whites) and then wash again with glo white type stuff. There is a vanish version too I think.

What I meant was - use the colour catcher to get the grey out of the load you just washed!

I have a box of this stuff for when it happens
