Which of these two ballerinas?

Sorry, not a very exciting question but please help end my indecision.

I want to get a new pair of Hobbs ballerinas, in a style I've had before, I know suits me and is comfortable.

These aren't my only pair of flats - I have quite a collection, including some more -work-y, brogues, loafers and more on trend styles - eg, some skaters, which I love. But still want these as basics.

Have narrowed down choice to two. These:
www.hobbs.co.uk/product/display?productID=0214-R80B-034H005&productvarid=0214-R80B-034H005-GOLD-37&refpage=search/results

and the same thing in the delphinium blue nubuck (not the bright blue leather ones which are reduced) - sorry, wretched site won't link but they are on site very close to first pair, at same price.

Want something that goes with everything, or almost. Obviously the metallic is a neutral, but the blue is a nice subtle colour, good with navy, grey, and denim, all of which I wear a lot, and OK with black and white, I think. Downside of nubuck is it's not good in rain.

Any votes welcome.

Just to complicate things, have also tried on these:
gb.geox.com/D-CHARLENE/D34Y7J00021C4005,default,pd.html

which are very comfortable, similar but paler lovely blue but a different look from the ballerinas. Nice or frumpy?

TIA.

the second pair are a bit frumpy IMO - the Hobbs ones cost a bomb though, surely there must be somewhere you can get v v similar flats but for a better price? I always look at shoes on amazon- loads of bargains!

polyhymnia · 13/07/2014 15:20

Thanks. Yes, I wondered if Geox ones a bit frumpy too.

On price, happy to spend that sort of money on shoes I know will be comfortable. Having had bad experiences with feet rubbed raw, etc when I've bought cheaper shoes (eg from M and S), tend to stick with brands I'm sure will suit my feet (Hobbs, L K Bennett, Russell and Bromley, Pretty Ballerinas, some Geox, some Boden, plus some Fitflops for casual wear and serious walking).

I like the first pair! Would wear them, but wouldn't pay that much for them (but i am poor)

Don't like the second pair.

MiniTheMinx · 13/07/2014 15:24

The second pair are probably more practical because they can be worn with a skirt of any length as well as trousers and jeans. The first pair would look too heavy with a skirt.

buttercrumble · 13/07/2014 15:27

Sorry neither of them .

polyhymnia · 13/07/2014 15:28

Do you mean the Hobbs 'gold' (actually, they're silver in RL) would look too heavy with a skirt - had though perhaps the Geox ones would?

OP posts:
MiniTheMinx · 13/07/2014 15:32

The geox ones too heavy with any skirt...says me who wears DMs with every skirt! but they are I think wrong shape to look good with anything other than jeans or trousers. Or maybe its just me!

MiniTheMinx · 13/07/2014 15:33

I should add, I do love the colour of both pairs, very pretty

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 13/07/2014 15:40

Really dislike those Geox ones, sorry. The Hobbs ones are okay, but far too expensive.

polyhymnia · 13/07/2014 16:10

Yes, agree the Geox ones are jeans/ trousers only ( do actually really like your DM look in your pix though, Minnie - but don't think I cd carry it off). They are indeed a lovely colour - but perhaps this is blinding me to their less good qualities!

On price, am I the only one who wears Hobbs ballerinas? Actually cost quite a bit less than my Pretty Ballerinas - though I guess you could argue the P B are more stylish so 'worth' the difference.

The first pair, I'm 56 and wouldn't personally where the blue ones

bettykt · 13/07/2014 16:33

1st pair definitely. They are really nice. I don't like the 2nd pair but that's because they are not me and I wouldn't wear them. I would wear the 1st pair a lot.

MiniTheMinx · 13/07/2014 16:46

The hobbs ones are worth the money, I think. They are leather and leather lined. You can easily spend similar money and get manmade lining...yuk!!! Think how comfy they will be Grin

polyhymnia · 13/07/2014 17:02

Yes, good point on leather lining. I actually have an old pair of Hobbs ballerinas (nude/taupey colour) on this afternoon and they are nice and cool.

Thanks for the comments. Have gone for the Hobbs ones in the nice subtle silver.
