Tell me about Lush

Suddengeekgirl · 13/07/2014 09:12

I have an urge to cut down the number of chemicals in my skin care. I know lush still contain them but compared the the chemistry lesson on my garnier cleanser it is minimal.

So, what's good?

I'm thinking of trying...
Ultrabland cleanser
Full of grace serum bar
Angels on bare skin cleanser

I'm allergic to SLS and get cystic acne (although effaclar duo seems to have cleared it up a lot)

What do you think of lush?
What's good?

:)

I've also seen the mess the bath bombs can make so will be avoiding those. Wink

I get a bit overcome by the smells in their shops. But their staff are always friendly without being pushy. I just dash in for henna occasionally.

13Stitches · 13/07/2014 09:23

I love lush products. Though they're often expensive, they usually last absolutely ages.

The shampoo bars are great, but you need somewhere dry to keep them (they'll disintegrate quickly if left in a puddle).

Not all the bath bombs make a huge mess. Ask staff to reccomend a tamer one for a treat!

WhoKnowsWhereTheTimeGoes · 13/07/2014 09:24

I love Ultrabland and Angels on Bare Skin, also Eau Roma toner. I like the smell of the shops but some of the products are too heavily scented for me, for example the sea spray hair stuff gives me a headache. I've used Full of Grace but it didn't make any noticeable difference to my skin.

I love Dream Cream and Helping Hands hand cream.

The fresh face masks are nice, I also like the solid shampoos, but not had much joy with the conditioners. I use the henna too.

HorsesDogsNails · 13/07/2014 09:33

Angels on bare skin in a beautiful cleanser, my skin is really sensitive and Angels is gentle and effective. I also use Eau Roma water toner.

Dirty Springwash shower gel is another favourite of mine, has a lovely fresh minty smell!

MysteryCat · 13/07/2014 09:35

I use Ultrabland everyday at the moment and Angels on Bare Skin 2/3 times a week. My skin is really clear as a result but whenever I stop using these products it goes back to being dull and tired-looking.

They are expensive but you can get away with only using a tiny amount each time so they last for ages.

I also use the Rehab shampoo and Veganese conditioner which are great for my fine hair.

Agree the staff are really helpful and sometimes give little testers to take away if you're not sure.

Suddengeekgirl · 13/07/2014 09:44

Does anyone happen to know which of the shampoos are SLS free?

I do find the smells overwhelming when I've popped in before, but I'm like that walking through the perfume section in boots/ department store. Confused

naturalbaby · 13/07/2014 09:48

I only use dream cream, the face masks and soap at the moment but am always tempted to use other things.
I tempted to use the henna but have never used henna before.

WhoKnowsWhereTheTimeGoes · 13/07/2014 09:53

No, sorry, I don't buy the shampoos regularly (just keep one in my washbag for travel and my current one is quite old) but I think all the ingredients are on their website. It does pop up in some products where you might not expect it (for example the Jasmine and Henna Fluff Eaze hair mask, which is brilliant) so you do need to check.

Ohwhatfuckeryisthis · 13/07/2014 10:08

big hint_ if you go in and chat to the staff-tell them your problems and concerns, they will give you samples, so you dont have to spend loads on stuff that you might chuck. (and, this is super secret-they are allowed to give away a full size product. i spent ages chatting to a girl, she asked what product i would like and she gaveme their full size very expensive moisturiser)

WhoKnowsWhereTheTimeGoes · 13/07/2014 10:10

I've never been given a full size freebie, but they are very generous with samples and the staff are mostly pretty knowledgeable about the products. They have a very good free magazine/catalogue too.

TulipOHare · 13/07/2014 16:34

I've been using Ultrabland and AOBS for about 15 years and swear by them. I also love the body creams and lotions and the dusting powders.

Used Full of Grace once, back when it first came out. Was nice. Might try it again actually Grin

TulipOHare · 13/07/2014 16:39

I think you were lucky Grin ! I have been a regular for almost 20 years and this has never happened to me. I have had a few samples and maybe a bar of soap here and there that was too small to be sold, but that's it!

Ponyo16 · 13/07/2014 20:25

I think the best thing for you to do is to pop into your local Lush store.( I am a supervisor in one of them.) If you're unsure of our products or what would be best for you, the best thing is to ask for is a skin consultation from one of our lovely members of staff. I'd suggest going on a quiet day as that way they can spend a lot of time with you. Skin consultations take you through cleaners/ toner waters/ moisturisers and face masks. But you can also ask for hair or body consultations too :) I hope you manage to find something amazing for your skin, I'm 100% positive you will!
And as for the mess of our bath bombs, they don't usually leave a mess as long as your bath is clean. I personally have made the mistake of having a bath bomb and realising my bath needed a clean after it left a mark on the scum line! Any more queries feel free to ask!

Ponyo16 · 13/07/2014 20:33

And just a P.S. To clear up about giving away a product. In our stores we are VERY lucky to do something wonderful called a Random Act of Kindness. This means that once in a while, when we make a very special connection with a customer, we are able to treat them by giving them a product for free. It's not about who has the biggest 'Sob Story' or who spends the most in store. It's about who we as people connect with and feel they deserve someone special. I don't know ANY other shop, cosmetic, clothing or otherwise that does something so amazing for their valued customers. It is just one of the many reasons why I love working for Lush.

CoconutAmericano · 13/07/2014 20:42

I use karma komba shampoo bar. It smells fabulous. I use it on the kids too. I also love their body butter called buffy. It leaves my skin so smooth and moisturised. Love it. And i've recently discovered their henna. Caca rouge specifically. Total convert now.

Suddengeekgirl · 13/07/2014 20:49

Right, I now know where I'm going on dd's last playgroup session this week! Grin

On my list is a cleanser - ultrabland or angels on bare skin. I like hot cloth cleansing so ultrabland might be best.
And maybe the serum bar, full of grace.

I like the look of the moisturisers but they seem VERY
expensive.

And I'm going to ask about the shampoos /SLS too.

Could be an expensive trip! Wink

LOVE Lush! Angels cleanser is gorgeous. Buffy body scrub, lemony flutter cuticle butter, olive branch shower gel and vanilla delite body lotion are all regular favourites of mine. The face masks are also fantastic and I'll never buy one in a tube again. Always amazing customer service - the happiest staff on the high street!

TheannamoLeelu · 13/07/2014 22:19

Love that random act of kindness thing, must be a good place to work. I've always found the staff friendly and helpful, and their products are nice too.

HiawathaDidntBotherTooMuch · 13/07/2014 22:28

DS 6 yo absolutely loves their bath bombs. He has one most weekends. I don't find them too pungent at all, and I make him avoid the glitter ones. I don't find that they make a mess of the bath at all. The staff are lovely to him too. I really liked one of their body moisturisers for about £12 which contained banana, but wasn't at all strong, last time we bought out their bath bombs Smile

cluelessnchaos · 13/07/2014 22:28

I use imperialus moisturiser and although might seem expensive is cheaper than any others I've used and liked

Provencalroseparadox · 13/07/2014 22:34

My DCs also love the bath bombs. I get them as a regular treat. There is one at the moment, I think called a Whiz Banger that makes a noise like popping candy then a piece of paper floats out with the word Bang on it. It made us howl.

I also like the soaps, the bubble bars and the massage bars.

KenDoddsDadsDog · 13/07/2014 22:41

Dreamcake bath bar. And I adore snow cake soap and marzibain at Christmas !

Suddengeekgirl · 17/07/2014 11:29

We'll that was a morning well spent! :)

Lovely bloke in our branch hunted through all the shampoo ingredients, couldn't find a sulphate free one but gave me a chunk of solid conditioner as a freebie. :)
I said not to worry and that SLS was everywhere - even in toothpaste. Que another freebie - their new toothpaste pill thingies. (A bit weird but I love a freebie) :)
Then played about with the cleansers and picked up a tub of ultrabland. I did pay for this one but it felt fab when I tried it on my hand and smells lovely. Grin

I would definitely be a convert if they made some shampoo with no sulphate in!

I like Lush, don't shop there too often, but their products are nice. :)

I found the opposite with the staff though, in my local stores at least, they're quite overbearing. I had 3 staff members asking if I was looking for anything in particular about 1-2mins after entering the shop. DP refuses to go in one of them because one of the staff members followed us about giving advice on every single thing we looked at, after saying we wanted to be left to browse ourselves.

Just so it doesn't seem like I'm only having a moan though (sorry if I am), I bought a friend's Christmas gift from one of their stores last year, and the packaging was ruined by snow falling on it and making the dye run on the way to the car (managed to get caught in a snowstorm just as we left!). I went back to the store a few days later to see if they would repackage it, or if I could pay for one of those little wraps if they could take the products out and bundle them up nicely in one, and they gave me a brand new one, which was nice. :)

WhoKnowsWhereTheTimeGoes · 17/07/2014 11:46

Glad it went well. I've never found the staff overbearing in the three branches I use most regularly, but it's a fine line and some of them are definitely very enthusiastic. I'd far rather three people pounced on me than they all ignored me.
