Clothes moths...anyone?

Yes, the dreaded pest. I have a friend who has been battling against them eating her clothes for years. She was given some second hand stuff from someone she knows [ little did she know he had a clothes moth problem] and her clothes now get little holes in them. I have had intermitent holes in my childrens clothes..mainly t-shirts and t-shirt material things. I thought it was the washing machine until i spoke to my friend and she showed me the same type of hole i have witnessed on mine and my childrens clothes. I have put things that i bought from amazon just to ensure that i dont have them eat my clothes!! ~So far so good!!! Just wondered if anyone else had problems concerning clothes moths? The thread on whitestuff clothes talking about small holes appearing in t-shirt fabric made me think about it as i have been blaming it on these pesky moths...but maybe not??? The holes that i have seen in my ds tees look exactly like the one a lady has posted on the white stuff thread!!

Moths like wool best. I often get small holes in tshirts where they have rubbed against my belt. If you have moths I would imagine you'd see them from time to time. It's advised to only put clean clothes in wardrobes so I don't put anything back that has been worn.

Meant to say don't over fill the washing machine and don't put delicates in with heavy items like jeans.

It's the larvae rather than the moth that cause the holes.

They thrive on natural fabric such as wool, cotton, feather, linen, leather etc., but it's little flakes of skin and sweat that actually attracts them, so always wash before storing.

They like dark places, so make the most of summer to hang clothing in bright sunshine to dry rather than using the dryer and if you have anything that is particularly valuable put it in a plastic bag and store in the freezer for a few days.

This will make sure the eggs are killed off.

They are difficult to get rid of, but get natural fabrics clean and in the sun, which is easy at the moment, and this will help a lot.

Don't forget, woollen rugs and carpets will harbour the larvae too, so shampooing and hoovering these helps too.

Cedarwood essential oil is supposed to keep the feckers away, but that's a preventative measure once you are sure you have got rid of the infestation.
