£15!
£15 pounds delivery to Ireland!

The thing I want is only £24.

Bloody hell. AIBU?

Just checked Royal Mail, International Standard would cost £5 for a parcel of less than 500g, it goes up to £10 if that contents are worth a bit more.

peachesandpickles · 09/07/2014 18:35

I don't see Parcel Motel as extra hassle as long as you have a collection point near you. It saves you having to wait in for post/courier.

Greenstone · 09/07/2014 18:58

I do not (necessarily) want free delivery (though it is always nice).

I want delivery that is hassle-free and charged at a rate commensurate to other companies' rates.

No Parcel Motel outlet near me now that I think about it.

Anyway, I'm not too bothered, there are other plenty of other places to shop than Me&Em! I was just taken aback by fifteen whole quid.

Why does everyone keep telling me we're not part of the UK here in Ireland? Confused I'm fully aware of that. It was in no way related to my thread, which is about business practices that seem baffling to me, in a shoot - yourself-in-the-foot kinda way.

Sorry Greenstone I was getting your post mixed up with something another poster said about how a company can deliver free of charge to Belfast but not to the Rep of Ireland. Just getting confused...oops.

AnnabelleDarling · 09/07/2014 21:19

£15 is ridiculous for a dress, given the size and weight of the parcel. I have a mental list of sites that have free delivery to Ireland - asos, Atterly Road, I use the HoF click and collect, HN do it too. I always look there first when shopping online as I hate paying extortionate postage charges

ifitsnotanarse · 09/07/2014 21:36

Greenstone you need to make friends with someone who lives over the Border and that you can visit frequently.

I am often of use to family and friends for this very reason. Happily they bring cake on collection of item(s)

Am willing to be your friend. All buns gratefully received. Also teabrack! Wink

MissisBee · 10/07/2014 16:20

Even for Northern Ireland, delivery charges can be extortionate. I once tried to order a cake tin, worth £12 and they quoted me £50 for delivery. I put the dimensions and weight into royal mail and it was £5. I emailed the company about this but never heard back from them

DodobirdVerdict · 10/07/2014 16:57

I'm elsewhere in Europe and am giving Me+Em a miss this year because of their ridiculously high delivery (and return!) charges. Several of my friends here would love to buy from them but the charges put them off. Asos, Zalando, Atterley Road deliver for free...

Cranagh · 10/07/2014 17:04

I love Me & Em but £15 charge to deliver to Ireland is ridiculous. And I'm getting a bit fed up waiting for my refunds, two weeks and no acknowledgment of returns.

florascotia · 10/07/2014 19:11

OP you have my sympathies but it's not just about not being in the UK. Quite a few courier companies charge a lot extra to deliver goods anywhere beyond the central belt in Scotland. So do ParcelForce: www.parcelforce.com/send-uk/our-uk-prices/our-uk-delivery-zones

Greenstone · 10/07/2014 19:41

That cake tin story is hilarious!

Well, in other news, yesterday I ordered a blazer in the Whistles sale. Free delivery. It was dispatched yesterday and arrived...this morning. I am pleased.

Didn't know about atterly road, shall add them to my list. Jojo maman bebe also free delivery to UK and Ireland, I note. Never bought from them though.

Happy shopping all.
