Fancy dress hell - please help!

I loathe and abhor fancy dress with a passion but I love my friend and she is enough of a fan of it to be having an 80s themed party in a couple of weeks' time. I have absolutely no idea what to wear - does anyone have any easy to execute ideas for me?? Please?!

Oh, and I need ideas for DH too whose feelings on the subject are very similar to mine.

(And yes, I do realise that there is very little stylish or beautiful about my request...)

I loathe the 80s theme! It's been done to death already.

I dressed up a while back as tho I was in 'The summer of love' 1988 - acid house t shirts, bandanas, dungarees and Manchester raver hats (still have my original!)

Or favourite band/movie from the 80s?

Goth can be cheap, easy and effective.

You can buy 80's stuff anywhere now, it's all back in fashion. Grin

Loads of looks to xhoose from:

Ra-ra skirt, crop top, leg warmers. Crimped hair. Neon.

Aerobics took off in a big way so perhaps your husband could don a Lycra body suit a la Mr Motivator? [Grin].

Kappa tracksuit. Lacoste trainers.

A-line skirt, mid heeled 'mules', pussy bow blouse, gold hoop earrings.

Polo shirt, sta press trousers, slip on shoes, Pringle check jumper (husband)

The New Romantic look (Google boy George/Steve strange/Leigh Bowery) for a really OTT effort.

Have fun, I love a good dress up party!

Go as Margaret Thatcher and Ronald Reagan!

leggings, large baggy sweatshirt with the neck cut off wide so it slips over the shoulder, hair backcombed and tied up with a scarf lots of gold chains and big hoop earrings and a pair of legwarmers or long baggy socks with pixie boots or ballet fats. pair of lace fingerless gloves and very exaggerated make up in bright colours and fuschia lippy. have fun.

Your dh could wear a light coloured jacket with the sleeves pushed up, canvas espidrille shoes and mirrored sunglasses - voila! straight from Miami Vice or a bit longer jacket for a member of Duran Duran.

Personally I'd go Goth. I was a goth so could probably dig out my Dr Martins.

harryhausen · 08/07/2014 08:53

Oh yes, lots of back combing and hairspray....and a sullen look.

Thanks all very much for all the ideas, much appreciated - think I might need to hit the charity shops and see what I can find.

Bayrans, I do too, any other decade I could get a bit more interested in but 80s fashions were particularly hideous. But maybe that's the idea?

MCSpammer, Grin at the idea of DH as Mr Motivator - think he would rather boil his head in oil!
