white stuff- is it shite?

I received a white stuff voucher for my birthday a few months back and picked up a cardigan and a scarf for £50. The cardigan was almost £40 and after about ten washes (30° cycle) looks like absolute shit. I have tops from primark that have worn better. Is this common with their stuff or did I just pick up a duff item?

It can be very poor quality ime. Especially given that it is not the cheapest.

ElephantsNeverForgive · 07/07/2014 21:09

DDs dress looks like a dish cloth. Very soft cotton, doesn't wash well or last anythink like as long as the price suggests.

I have way cheaper supermarket stuff and similar priced Sea Salt and Minstral things that are way way better.

Saurus72 · 07/07/2014 21:12

The issue with White Stuff is that it looks floppy and tired when you buy it before you've even washed it. Having said that, I know someone who swears by their tops for work, as she finds them super hard wearing and also, you don't have to iron them. Horses for courses I guess.

FiftyShadesOfGreen4205 · 07/07/2014 21:14

A dish cloth is a pretty accurate description of my cardigan. I'm disappointed as I don't usually buy higher end high street stuff.

Yes poor quality imo, I avoid.

moogalicious · 07/07/2014 21:53

I bought a parka from there last autumn. It's fab and I get lots of compliments. Not too dear either.

Their tops however look like dishcloths on the website - made of that viscose stuff.

dexter73 · 07/07/2014 22:07

It is very poor quality - their t-shirts get holes in very quickly and the jumpers bobble after wearing them for about 10 minutes. The jumpers actually have tags on them warning you about the bobbling!!

LoonvanBoon · 07/07/2014 22:45

I've got a great jacket from there, but agree with Saurus about the other stuff - it looks shapeless & old before you've even bought it!

The t-shirt material is particularly thin & poor quality. I tried on some white t-shirts in there recently, & they were all completely see-through - way more than is normal with a white top. I've had better quality tops from supermarkets.

Have never tried the knitwear but it definitely looks as if bobbling would be an issue.

ThedoublelifeofDollyBrown · 07/07/2014 22:50

Hit or miss. Knitwear not good, bags, leather ware not good. Some dresses, skirts and tops ok, but don't expect longevity you'd get from more expensive brands. It's not a bad price, though.

alemci · 07/07/2014 22:57

very hit and miss, some things are better than others. some things go holey.

my cardi is not too bad and lovely waistcoats from a couple of seasons ago.

kerstina · 08/07/2014 08:34

I really like some of their designs especially with knitwear. Lovely colours too. As others have said the bobbling is really disappointing and they should be giving those little comb things out free with their knitwear. White stuff are you listening?
Not keen on any of the loud frumpy patterned stuff though and the sizing is way too generous. Need to do more size 6's.

I've had some very good skirts, shorts, trousers and jeans.

HiawathaDidntBotherTooMuch · 08/07/2014 08:52

I really like lots of their stuff. Easy to wear and put together. Good website and fast delivery and processing of returns. Scarves and skirts are good. I would pay the extra and buy knitwear elsewhere if you can.

XiX · 08/07/2014 09:02

It's a bit shite but i like their colours and some of their styles. Knitwear is definitely shite. I would be impressed if you got 10 washes out of it Grin

I also hate their policy of offering discount codes so I feel I can't buy anything unless I have a code. I much rather they just have slightly lower prices for everyone. Full price is too much for their stuff.

I also politely refuse to give them my email when they ask me EVERY time I buy something.

I do like some of their plain teeshirts though and I have a couple of their more heavyweight cotton casual dresses that I wear a lot.

alemci · 08/07/2014 09:38

I like their colours. They often seem to design with my colouring in mind, lots of blues and pinks which I love. I have quite a few of their tops and the odd dress. pretty designs which I like and suit me.

at least most of their stuff is cotton which is another gripe about the high street these days.

burnishedsilver · 08/07/2014 10:26

I bought three things from Whitstuff. The jumper was lovely initially but was a rag after 1 wash and had to be thrown out. The two tops arent great either. They are quite mishapen after washing. None of them were cheap. I've decided that yes, they are shite, and I wont be buying there again.

Rosarosae · 08/07/2014 10:50

Their designs are nice but they fade so v quickly if you machine wash them. Most of their knitwear bobbles even before you wash them. White shirts are ok as there's no colour to fade, some skirts are good too. But in general, I don't rate their quality.

Greengardenpixie · 08/07/2014 11:03

I actually really love white stuff clothing. I have loads. I have tons of skirts which are the most gorgeous prints. They tend to wear very well. I dont overwash them. I have had a few of their dresses. They do tend to fade upon washing over time but its helped by using colour soap powder or some of the colour sheets that you can add to a machine. I have a pair of cropped coloured jeans that i just love and make me look and feel slim in. I love them. They are quirky with little stars all over them. I have lived in their leggings. Super comfy and flattering. I have a pair of boots and they are beautiful. Also the most gorgeous pair of brogues. I have bought lots of their tunics over the years and yes they can be thin, but lovely prints and colours. My style is quirky so their stuff suits me. As for knitwear, yes, i agree not the best however i try not to overwash things. I have 3 of their hearty cardigans and i love them. Beautiful colours - teal, pale blue and a gorgeous tomato red!

Heels99 · 08/07/2014 13:52

Skirts and dresses last forever. Knitwear looks dreadful quite quickly, bobbly, shrunken etc.

Their style is very samey and these days looks frumpy, they have been overtaken by other brands in the same way as fat face.

alemci · 08/07/2014 13:57

are they having a sale, nothing in john lewis

GrouchyKiwi · 08/07/2014 14:40

I love their clothes too, but agree re the knitwear, mostly because it's not made from natural fibres so wears out faster.

I have several dresses, skirts and tunics that are great quality and I've owned them for ages. Can't wait to wear them again once my baby is born.

LAB123 · 08/07/2014 16:48

Love their skirts and they wear well because don't need washing as much as tops. Agree that jumpers, cardigans and tshirts don't stand up to washing. I hand wash or put in those mesh bags in washing machine to give them a chance.

Husband loves their jeans, jumpers and shirts and they last brilliantly.

JuneFromBethesda · 08/07/2014 17:11

I just bought a WS linen dress off Ebay and I love it - great colour, print, fit and good quality. I only paid a tenner for it though Smile I like their stuff and they do lovely quirky prints, but I agree it's on the pricey side for what it is.
