Fine-haired MNers - what products do you use?

I'm trying to grow my hair out from its usual crop, and wondering how I can stop it looking as lank and feeble as it did the last time I let it grow past my ears. Do you have any recommendations for any particular products (styling products or shampoos/conditioners) that have magically rendered your hair bouncy and glossy, or at least not looking like straggly little rats' tails?

Me - fine dead straights hair, just below shoulder length/long layers/wash every day, (uncoloured/untreated virgin hair)

My favourite products, which I can't always buy due to £££££.

Frederik Feckai volumising shampoo - ime THE best for fine hair that is washed every day. Unfortunately about £22.

Philip Kinglsley S&C for body - I don't like the smell but it gives good results body wise.

Australian Organics shampoo for extra body, puts a nice gloss on my hair and doesn't weigh it down.

Johnsons baby conditioner - the pink one

I've tried a lot of volume shampoos and conditioners, ime the matching conditioners are usually far too heavy for fine hair even if only applied to the very ends of hair, so I rarely using the same brands for S & C.

I've just found a new mousse called Bouffant I think by Kerastase which is excellent. Gives a natural feel to hair but does give good volume too.

One shampoo a day/condition only the very ends of hair/small amount of styling product and dry hair upside down.

No products here - I find it just weighs the hair down more and gets greasier more quickly (I do allow my hairdresser to use some wax, though, but I have short hair). When it was longer, it was all about the blow dry - using a barrel brush, and getting loads of volume to the roots. Never any product.

I'm obsessed with L'Oreal's Fibrology range.

This is me: crop for years because of fine lank hair with zero volume. I dye it to make it look thicker, and now also to cover the grey hairs that are appearing. However, due to being pregnant and then a new mother of twins with a 22 month old, I have been to the hairdresser once in the past year. My hair is now just above my shoulders, and I think I've cracked my new look...

Yes to fibrology, makes your hair feel thicker and slightly matt which makes styling it easier. I wash/condition it every day with this stuff.
Boots mousse: super cheap and non sticky
Amazing find: babyliss big hair rotating hair dryer thing. The best £45 you'll spend. Makes my hair look like someone else's - swooshy, full of body, not kinking all over the place. A.maz.ing. Very easy to use.

I'm using l'oreal fibrology at the moment too and my hair is definitely thicker.
However, that said I've only used it while pregnant, which I believe gives you thicker hair anyway, so my judgement may not be entirely accurate.

Hmm, pregnancy... my hair is really fine...

Thanks for all the suggestions! Have never thought about looking at baby conditioner, but that would make sense. And I'll have a look at that Babyliss thingy, too. I've just been leaving my hair to air-dry, but will need to get a new dryer when we move back to the UK.

Fibrology for me too. Best ive ever used. No conditioner and babyliss big hair.

WildBillfemale · 07/07/2014 19:04

So many plus votes I think I'll try Fibrology next
