Has anyone had their high heels shortened?

Every shoe that I have seen and liked has had an absolute skyscraper of a heel attached to them! Impossible to walk in IMO.

Has anyone had them shortened?

Was it worth it? Did it ruin the shoe?

Thanks

can you actually do this? I imagine it would make them all off balance but if you can it would be amazing, I am always fancying shoes but they have too high a heel for me to contemplate walking in.

Youdontneedacriminallawyer · 06/07/2014 15:11

Is that a thing then? Didn't know you could do that. I can't really see how it would work - wouldn't it make the soles the wrong shape?

GretchenWiener · 06/07/2014 15:12

youd fall backwards surely

STOPwiththehahaheheloling · 06/07/2014 15:13

The arch would need altered too then surely? And if a platform then it too?

DeMaz · 06/07/2014 15:17

I have heard people doing this but it's up to the cobbler. Most of them recommend taking off half an inch so as not to throw the shoe off balance. Not sure if it will be worth it but have just ordered a pair that are ridiculously high. I don't think I'll be able to stand in them let alone walk!! I just loved the shoe and it was a bargain....

I wouldn't have thought it would work, would it? The shape of a high heeled shoe (the sole and so on) is different from a lower heeled or flat shoe. So if you had lower heels, your toes would stick up in the air, and they'd be a lot more uncomfortable than just having high heels would be.

dexter73 · 06/07/2014 15:24

I don't think that taking off 1/2" will make any difference if the shoes are ridiculously high.

Itscurtainsforyou · 06/07/2014 15:26

I would love to know if this is possible. I have some lovely boots I had made to measure, but just can't walk in heels any more. I would like them lowered or turned into wedges (which I think I could probably walk on) but have no clue if/who could do this.

STOPwiththehahaheheloling · 06/07/2014 15:27

It will if there is a platformed sole dexter which ridiculously high heels tend to have.

STOPwiththehahaheheloling · 06/07/2014 15:28

I dont doubt that it can be done but i'd love to see it in action and the outcome.

DeMaz · 06/07/2014 15:51

I'm going to wait for my heels to arrive and I will take a trip to the cobblers to see if it can be done. These shoes don't have a platform but still too high for me.
I will let you know next week what happens. (Or doesn't happen).

Thanks everyone.

I've done it with a few pairs of shoes/sandals/boots. Made a massive difference ie could wear them ! I had 1/2 an inch off, so herl height was 2.5 inches...I am a bit of a wuss though Grin

DeMaz · 06/07/2014 16:55

That's good to know willow. Hope mine can be done!

Thanks.

Yes I have had this done on very high stiletto boots (years ago!!). The cobbler put on a completely different heel/sole from memory & it could only be altered to a very specific height so as not to throw them off balance.
