Please please help with capsule wardrobe for work trip to China in August

Please please help me with some ideas for a capsule work wardrobe which will be smart but not too hot for a work trip to Beijing in August!

It will be smoggy and hot. I'll spend a lot of time indoors in air con but have to travel between appointments in taxis around the city. In my industry, suits are not standard, but most of my Chinese clients are very well turned out (designer, crisp white shirts and suits, often).

I usually wear wrap dresses and skirts with blazers for this kind of trip. I feel I should be reasonably modestly dressed, with covered shoulders.

I'm 5'3 and currently a large size 10 - quite a broad/athletic build, 32D. Dresses/skirts need to come nearly to my knee and my legs aren't good. I really dislike synthetic fabrics as they're just so hot and sticky so usually buy cotton, but that's hard to achieve these days!

I have one navy dress from Great Plains which will do but almost nothing else. I'll have meetings and business dinners for five days. I never shop as I'm rubbish at it, and we really don't have much spare cash. I think I can pull together about £200 to spend but that's it Hmm

Any suggestions at all would be very very welcome!

Oh that's so, so grim!

We're starting to think about trying for dc#2, but for various reasons (including this trip), we're going to wait a bit. I can't imagine the discomfort of pregnancy on top of everything else!

If you want to be sure about veggie food take a translation in mandarin saying you are allergic etc. most restaurant staff don't speak English. It's easy to do in google translate but print it out as google doesn't always work here. Meat can sometimes sneak in often in the form of cooking oil. Sorry not trying to put you off but better to be aware. But there are usually plenty of veg dishes and plain rice available. Look out for Jenny or BHG supermarkets. They carry a reasonable range of western foods if you get really desperate. A good phrase book is also useful. I really hope you enjoy the trip despite the difficulties. Beijing is a great place and today was around 27degrees so not too hot!

Ps will you let us know how you get on?!

I shall, thank you!

I have finished sorting out clothes, more or less, and now have to get work in order. I will be escorted some of the time by my agent so I'm hoping he can teach me a few phrases too.

My clothes plan is a capsule wardrobe consisting of the Whistles tube skirt, some 'Billie' crop trousers fromPhase 8, some navy trousers, two silk tops from phase 8, one lace top, one cotton top, and a dress from Great Plains. I found these shoes which I think will be functional and hopefully not cripple me.
