What to wear for a TA interview?

I was thinking that smart but casual. DH reckons I should wear a suit but I think that would be ridiculous as it's not that kind of environment and I need to be able to get down on the floor with the children (very young class).

I was thinking navy ankle grazer chinos
Simple T
Jersey blazer (not sure on colour)
Navy loafers
Maybe a scarf or something?

I would really appreciate your advice please.

That's a tricky one....
I wore a suit, however what you're describing sounds nice too. Will you actually have to do any hands on during the interview..?

Congratulations on getting an interview and good luck Thanks

I would go a bit smarter than smart casual. You're dressing for the interview, not the job.

Your outfit sounds lovely. I don't think a suit would be necessary. I work in a college and my boss was interviewing for support staff yesterday. Some of the outfits were really casual (jeans and t shirt for 1)

My boss is totally non judgemental though and raved about jeans bloke's experience.

I wore what you describe to a secondary interview. Grey ankle grazers, smart top, Zara blazer and scarf.

There were a lot of other candidates for support staff that day and they all seemed to be wearing similar styles. Some wore dresses. The men wore suits.

Good luck!

I think it depends on the trousers/skirt/blazer too. Some look smarter than others.

In a past life I recruited TAs and I would say what you have described sounds brilliant, also something like a nice jersey dress with a blazer or cardigan. Jeans/leggings far too casual, suit too much (and if you wore I suit I would need to reassure myself that you understood the realities of the job).

Well I have to do an activity with the children, (Y1) so that's why I was thinking about not wearing a suit if you know what I mean. But I want to look nice and that that I'm taking it seriously. I really want this job so I don't want to get it wrong. And I can't really afford to buy a suit if I won't really have much use for it again. I soooo want the job!

Definitely no suit then!

RoganJosh · 05/07/2014 10:11

Actually, I think with the blazer and scarf you'd be perfect. I don't really count that as smart casual.

I think your outfit sounds perfect.

I work in a school...people wear all sorts of things for interviews. I think your outfit sounds clean cut, tidy, classy and still practical.

Good Luck!
