We are flying from London to Adelaide, stopping in Singapore for 6 hours. What the hell do I wear? I am 5'3 and a rather overly voluptuous size 20. Any ideas, please?

Will you be leaving the airport at Singapore? Is winter in Adelaide much cooler than summer in London?

Alliwantisaroomsomewhere · 04/07/2014 20:22

No, we won't be leaving the airport, and yes, Adelaide will be lots cooler than London is now. We are not seasoned travellers.

This is a Very Big Experience for me, DH, and DS so I want it to be as comfortable as possible! (Sooooooo excited!!!)

Layers, maybe a jersey maxi shirt or some sort of stretchy trousers, cotton t shirt, thin cardigan, scarf. Comfy shoes that you can get on after your feet swell (mine always do anyway). Socks in your handbag if not wearing them or they don't give them out on board.

Thanks! Scarf and cardigan seems to be a good idea!

A jersey tunic, a cardigan, leggings, a big scarf, shoes you can slip on and off easily, cosy socks in your bag to put on on the plane. A really comfy bra - those genie bra tops are good for long haul as theres nothing to dig in.

I do that flight often - my standard is leggings, jersey dress, cardigan and ballet flats. Socks and a scarf for the plane.

One tip - Singapore airport has the Rainforest Lounge where for $10 you can have a decent shower. It is worth every cent, a shower at the mid-way mark makes you feel much better in that long flight. Even when I have a relatively short connection I absolutely hoof it to fit a shower in. If you have 6 hours it might be worth paying for a few hours in the hotel.

Adelaide really won't be comparatively cold, I wouldn't be overly concerned about the change in seasons.

Alliwantisaroomsomewhere · 04/07/2014 22:39

Thanks, Ruby! I was hoping there'd be shower facilities.

Singapore airport is air conditioned so dress for it as you would for a UK summer day, I always need a cardigan and socks there.

Although the airport does organise free 2 hour bus tours of Singapore if you have a layover more than 5 hours - might be interesting? Changi airport is about 15 minutes from most of the sights.

Alliwantisaroomsomewhere · 05/07/2014 09:52

I'd be too nervous about missing our flight if I went on that the tour, but it looks like a v good idea!I will talk to DH DS about it.

Thanks for the tips!

There's a great roof top pool and cinema too if you decide to stay in the airport. I've flown out of changi probably 30 times and love it!

singaporeswing · 05/07/2014 14:21

Changi is normally freeeezing! But also the most amazing airport.

I'm doing a similar flight soon (Singapore to Johannesburg) and planning thick leggings, long t shirt, denim shirt and huge pashmina with boots.

Coat is going in the top of the suitcase.

Jeans, converse, t-shirt, cardi and scarf
