Do I need a Babyliss Perfect Curl? (I need to make up my mind by tomorrow)

My birthday is tomorrow and my dad has offered to buy me a Babyliss Perfect Curl.
It is a hugely expensive item for my budget and, while it looks very tempting, I want to be sure it is worth the investment - there are other things I need more than curly hair.
I have waist-long straight hair. It is quite fine and not in the best condition (lots of split ends). It has never been able to hold a curl before (I have tried all sorts of curling irons and rollers).
The reviews on Amazon are rather positive but there are some people who claim their hair was damaged, or that they never got curls.

Any advice is welcome!

Santa brought me one.

I have dry damaged mid back fine hair. I'm not impressed, yes it works, but it's very expensive, I actually prefer curling my hair with my straighteners.

Had one and sold it on ebay.

Prefer using ghd's to curl my hair.

I absolutely love mine. I'm not good at styling so need something effortless and idiot proof. I (sort of) justify the expense to myself on the basis that it removes the need to shell out on fancy blow-drys on special occasions.

Best place to buy one may be here. You get to try it out for 30 days and can return if you don't get on with it or it doesn't suit your hair type/length? More reviews there too.

As an alternative, I treated myself to a steampod and it is flippin' amazing! There are lots of videos on line, including doing curls with it. My hair looks and feels like I've just walked out if the salon! My only problem with it is to do with my technique, the cord ends up completely wrapped around itself like those old push button telephones of the 80/90s, but other than that it is truly amazing!

Hunt out my what to do with thick hair thread (sorry would link but it's late and well past my bedtime!)

Thank you. I will find another idea, then!

I too love mine, tis the only way I can do curls, it is so damn flipping easy.

Not if you have thick hair. It just mangles your hair and will drive you crazy.

I would say please don't do it if you have waist length hair. Mine is almost waist length and I found it was too long for this to work safely. It just gets tangled up resulting in a panic as you smell your hair burning! Shock
It actually states in the small print of the instructions not to use if you have longer than bra strap length hair. Not very useful after you've spent a lot of money on the thing.
Mine is sitting in a draw now. I need to sell it on ebay really.
I would say that Curling irons etc are probably a better way to go compared to this. It's also pretty time consuming if you have a lot of hair.

There are now cheap versions on ebay if you want to try it but not lose money.
