Any tips on accessorising?

I seem to be completely incapable of accessorising, but when I notice and like another persons outfit I have realised that it is often because it is really well pulled tog enter with a nice belt/scarf/necklace etc.

I just don't seem to be able to do this at all.

I have a 3 year old and 1 year old if I ever wear a necklace or scarf it gets pulled or tugged, but yet I see other mothers wearing them.

I do tend to stick to simple, silver jewellery like a silver charm bracelet and a silver chain with small pendant thing. But although quite classic and easy to wear, they don't really dress up an outfit.

Has anyone got any tips so I can try and be a bit cooler?! Is it a case of planning an outfit more fully the night before or something?

Sorry to say this but my experience is that dangly necklaces/scarves are just not do-able with small children - they either pull on them or they get caught up in dishwasher etc!
If you have a waist ( sadly I don't anymore) nice belts might work - I used to have quite a big collection in a variety of colours, not only black/tan. |I used to find quirky ones in markets ( Covent Garden very good for this) and classic ones in leather shops in Spain and Italy.
Hopefully someone else will be along with better tips!

I've given up on necklaces as they get grabbed/pulled on. I opt for bracelets instead, have bought some nice ones fairly recently from ASOS and eBay.

I also do feel more coordinated if I plan my outfit the night before, gives me a chance to choose which accessories go with the clothes. I've got a bit slack with this though of late!

Thanks both. I think outfit planning probably is part of it. I also think accessorising is probably the creative/artistic side of dressing which isn't really my forte.

I might just need to stay dull for a few years til I am free of young children!

Once you've decided what accessories you do like and can wear, I find hanging them on the hanger of the outfit you'll wear them with, is invaluable in reminding me to actually put the damn things on! If I leave necklaces and bracelets in a box or drawer I simply never get them out. Whereas if they're on the hanger it's a no brainer.

Hairclips are fun. So are chunky bangles (and toddlers can play with them). Earrings, I'm not sure they suit me, really, but I try them occasionally.
