The Jillian Michaels 30 & 10 Day shred programmes use a holistic approach to losing weight via diet & exercise.

Happybeard · 06/07/2014 11:53

I don't think any of those "you can have as much as you like of the free foods" diets work if you have issues with over eating. If someone told me I could eat as much veggy sausages and pasta with sauce as I liked then I could quite happily eat mountains of it... Id put on a stone in a week.
The only thing that's worked for me is low carb and weighing food.

nomoreminibreaks · 07/07/2014 23:30

I know - it's a lot of food! As I said my appetite is massive as I'm feeding a giant very hungry baby!

I go to a meeting (usual weight watchers) as I need the pressure of the weigh in but you can also do it online. There are also groups on Facebook dedicated to filling & healthy that share recipes, rules etc.

margaritasbythesea · 08/07/2014 07:05

thanks nomore. I'm going to go on the crash one above and then go for that one to maintain it.

margaritasbythesea · 11/07/2014 07:15

Did you do one of these in the end OP? I am doing the James Duncan one which is hard going but doable. A kilo so far and today is day 4. Today is a hard one, though!

I'm not going to do it for more than a week. I just want a little kick start.

OvertiredandConfused · 11/07/2014 10:51

Really tempted to do the James Duncan diet - or even just the three day version in the comments below it. "Only" need to shift about 7lbs but it's really getting to me.

margaritasbythesea · 11/07/2014 11:10

It is tough but I find it doable because it tells me exactly what to eat and I know nothing else is allowed. If I am in control, I always push it.

That said, I did forget what I was supposed to have this morning and had yesterday's instead so maybe I will f it all up yet!

I just got bored of losing a little so so slowly and constantly having to think about it. I though it would be worth one week of feeling hungry if it could shift a whole load of llbs.

The food is so bloody dull I don't feel like eating much anyway TBH. There is only so much fruit you can fit in your stomach too.

HalleLouja · 11/07/2014 11:10

Weight Watchers and some HIIT classes. Running has helped too.

I lost a similar amount of weight in that time by low carbing and lots of gym.

Nancy66 · 11/07/2014 12:03

google The Scarsdale diet - old diet from 70s. Remember my mum doing it, hard core but it does work and you can drop a stone in 2 weeks

CroydonFacelift · 11/07/2014 13:27

Atkins is grim. The fact you have to take fybrogel just to shit tells you its not good for you. Appalling breath and bad skin as side effects, too.

Shred DVD minimum 5 days a week and a low fat diet (low carb and replace white rice with brown, potatoes with sweet potatoes etc), strict on portion sizes, no booze and loads of water.

I lost a stone in 4 weeks doing this in the new year, and another half stone the following month.

YasminPuppy · 11/07/2014 13:49

As a recent first time mum I was worried about shifting any excess weight - I increased my protein intake and cut out carbs almost completely. It's the quickest and healthiest way to lose weight fast - Just remember to drink lots of water, most people forget this but it really speeds things along and helps flush out all those nasties! Good Luck!!

DiscoDancer · 11/07/2014 20:57

Another lurker....

margaritasbythesea · 12/07/2014 07:12

I don't seem to be losing a stone on this bloody diet! A kilo so far Sad

TwoInTheMourning · 12/07/2014 17:53

Nancy, that diet looks quite similar to the Duncan diet, don't you think?

OP posts:
margaritasbythesea · 12/07/2014 19:01

They seem quite similar to me too.

The Duncan diet has certainly made me realise how little food you can actually eat, so I think it has been a good lesson for the future. I have always been sort of scared of restricting food in case I keeled over and in fact often eat snacks because I think I won't get through to the next mealtime. But know I know I will.

Nancy66 · 12/07/2014 20:23

do you mean Dukan?
yes it is similar, low carb although you can have some bread on Scarsdale.

TwoInTheMourning · 12/07/2014 22:10

No I mean this one that someone else linked to before

I am definitely not going to lose a stone. Today is day 5 of 7 and I have lost maybe 3-4llb.

TwoInTheMourning · 13/07/2014 07:20

Well I only started yesterday so I'm definitely not going to lose a stone either in time for my holiday, but anything will do. Even just the feeling that my belly is a little lighter will make me feel better. I am mostly following Duncan. So hungry...

OP posts:
margaritasbythesea · 13/07/2014 07:26

It has got easier as the week has gone on. I also find it easier if I have the protein meal for lunch where it is usually put in for dinner. I also slightly cheat by having the grapefruit or salads just before bed with a Fybogel. I do find it alarming how little I have been going to the toilet, despite taking two fybogels a day. Still, it is only a week. Stay strong!

Nancy66 · 13/07/2014 12:00

never heard of the Duncan diet - but, yes, looks like it's just cribbed from The Scarsdale.

Good luck with the weight loss

margaritasbythesea · 13/07/2014 12:08

I think Duncan just passed it on. He calls it a diet designed for pre-operative weight loss, so may well just be Scarsdale.

TwoInTheMourning · 14/07/2014 09:19

I'm on day 3 and I have already noticed a massive difference. I do realise it is all mostly water initially, but as long as I keep drinking 2 litres of water a day and doing the shred, the weight loss should stick, right? [hopeful]

OP posts:
margaritasbythesea · 14/07/2014 19:50

Well, I'm all done. I have probably lost about 5lb which is not bad for a week, but not th stone I was hoping for. I certainly am enjoying the difference to my tummy, so I am going to put myself on a modified one next week and see what happens.

It has been very interesting for me. I have never been on a proper diet before, always having been afraid of being hungry. I needed something really rigid so I wouldn't be tempted and it has taught me that hunger isn't going to make me faint or lose my temper or not be able to work or any of the things I was worried about. I think it will change to way I at for a long time.

I am extremely, extremely tired though.

Happy36 · 15/07/2014 03:10

Exercise like crazy. 2 hours at the gym (or spin class / running (intervals are best) then doing a gym style workout) 4 days a week and an hour of swimming on 2 of the other days. Get advice from fitness instructors if you are not sure. Warm up and warm down carefully, take a cool shower after exercising and eat some lean protein as soon as you can after each workout (e.g. tin of tuna, boiled chicken or turkey breast, glass of skimmed milk). Good luck!
