Not sure if I'm posting in the right place, looking for shorts for pre teen that are not too short?

Dd1 is very fussy, she needs some comfy shorts for the summer, refuses to wear denim shorts ( uncomfortable ) and all the basic ones I can find are too short, dd is skinny with wide hips and big bottom so we find most shorts are too revealing on a almost 11 year old. We have bought shorts from Next, H&M and boden and all are too short on her, if I buy bigger the. They are too big on her waste. Any ideas where I can find some reasonable length shorts, not denim and with a elastic aged waste ( I know I'm asking for a lot )?

does she need them to be fashion shorts, or is she not fussed? because if not fussed, I would definitely recommend either board shorts or trekking shorts - I have some lovely tan coloured cargo shorts with an elasticated waist that are really comfy, and then are a nice length too. Might be worth having a gander in decathlon/go outdoors?

She's not fussed what they look like, as long as they are comfortable and not pink Grin

In which case definitely outdoor shops! and if you're near the coast, boardshorts. I lived in them when I was a teenager. Super comfy, long and lots of nice, non pink colours.

I know its an older womans shop but Bon Marche have longer shorts in here

We are near (ish) the coast so will look in a few surf shops as well as outdoor clothing shops. Have found a few pairs in Zara online but for some reason it won't let me add anything to my basket so they obviously don't want my money Grin, her younger sister now has loads of shorts as I keep buying them for dd1 and they are too small\short.

We have resorted to buying boys shorts for dd for the same reasons. We got ours in H&M - just jersey material, elasticated waist, mid thigh level. It's a mystery why nobody is selling them for girls at the moment - I've looked everywhere.

We've got these but they're not available in the larger sizes.

But I think that Next and H&M did sweatshirt type material ones with a drawstring waist in the boys section.

Get boys ones, this kind of thing

Or get simple cheap trackie bottoms from sainsbury's/tesco and cut them off – you can cut off that tracksuit type fabric without even needing to hem it.

Row a, we have a pair of those ( they are great ), just a shame they don't do them in more girly colours ( pale blue or yellow ), it makes me angry that all the older girls shorts are so short and grown up, I don't want dd wearing them that shot as she's not very lady like ( plus they don't look comfortable ).

Will look at the boys boden ones too, they have changed the design of the girls ones.

I know! Mine's 8 and I couldn't find a single pair of normal shorts in the shops round here. All denim hot pant style.

drspouse · 30/06/2014 20:11

If it's from Boden they won't say Boy or Girl on them (I buy girl t-shirts for my DS and boy pyjamas for my nieces), and she won't have seen them in the shop to know which section they came from.

Dd is wearing h&m ones that were unisex -different colours of same shorts on boy and girl models-she has a lilac and a bright blue pair. She has a denim pair and a cotton pair that were both short, but unpick buttons on roll up bits and they became fine. Couldyou cut off old trousers?
