Botox

I'm 40 next year and having a bit of a wobble and focussing on all the bits that make me look old. I'm diligent about applying factor 30 daily but no amount of moisturiser and sunscreen will get rid of the horrible frown lines on my forehead ( I have no crows feet or laughter lines - so I must be a right miserable git that all I've got are frown lines).

It's also my sisters wedding in August and she's so glam and i just don't want to look like the frumpy older sister.

I'm justifying the cost by the fact that I rarely spend money on any other pampering. I get me hair cut about three times a year, never get manicures/pedicures/facials etc. Wax my own legs etc. I steal feel guilty and a bit frivolous.

My concern about it is, will it actually work? I know Botox stops you being able to frown but does it actually get rid of the existing marks? My frown lines are still there when I'm not frowning so how does it get rid of them? Is it worth the money? Realistically how often do you have to keep getting it done?

It will soften the lines already there, it won't necessarily remove them, depending on how deep they are. If you want to look perfect all the time then you need it every 3 months but a lot of people go for every 6.

You need to get away from the Botox is the answer idea because there are loads of other treatments which can be used.
Have a look at the website of Dr Tracy Mountford- Cosmetic Skin Clinic.

On another note- do you frown a lot and do you maybe need glasses? Not being funny but if you are frowning a lot is it possibly an eyesight issue :)

PickleSarnie · 30/06/2014 11:47

Thank you - I'm scared of going into a clinic and them pointing out all the bits "wrong" with my face that I hadn't noticed before!

I've got glasses ab but I frown when I'm concentrating whilst I'm staring at my computer screen. If I'd got out if that habit years ago, it would have saved me a fortune now!

No good cosmetic dr will just 'do as you ask' IYSWIM!
They will assess what you look like and suggest things- and if you have a budget then advise on what would work best.

Go for it, but do your research don't go somewhere cause it's cheap, I'm 6 ekes post my first Botox treatment and believe me I was extremely nervous, as I never thought I would actually go through with it , but believe me the difference is amazing you would never know as I can still move my forehead, I just look more relaxed and less stressed, I had 2 areas forehead and between the eyes, I was at the stage my make up would be gathered in the creases of my forehead as there that deep ?? and even though there still there, they're much softer looking, but of your research, most reputable doctors charge around the same, I stay clear of places that offer cheap deals .??

KenDoddsDadsDog · 30/06/2014 22:34

I love it. Had it first many years ago for migraine and it changed my life. The benefit now I'm 41 is that I look a lot less tired.

Dermabrasion won't make a jot of difference. Little bit of botox for your 11s will make a huge difference though. Find a good doctor and go for it. Every 3 months is a bit too frequent I'd say. Every 6 months or so is more realistic. It's quick, doesn't really hurt and gives quick results.

HaloNight · 01/07/2014 07:29

Hi, sorry if this sounds a bit dim, but what is the most reliable way to research and find a good Botox "administrator" in my area? I don't know anyone I can ask for personal recommendations - is it just a matter of Googling and trying to find one with independent reviews? How have any of you found a good one?

Thanks in advance

KenDoddsDadsDog · 01/07/2014 07:56

Good cosmetic dentists often do Botox as well. Also your local bupa / private hospital will be able to recommend. Don't let anyone touch you who isn't medically qualified.

HaloNight · 01/07/2014 08:02

That's great advice, thank you - I didn't know about the dentists!

Amethyst24 · 01/07/2014 08:54

Where are you? I'm happy to recommend the amazing woman who does mine, in west London. PM me if you like.

HaloNight · 01/07/2014 09:00

Ooh West London could be doable, I'm in Hertfordshire - thanks!

noddyholder · 01/07/2014 09:04

It works like nothing else

Botox will soften lines and stop more forming.. For deep lines you could get a little filler to fill them out..

I get dermaroller and that makes my skin look amazing but won't have much effect on deeper lines I wouldn't have thought..

NoArmaniNoPunani · 01/07/2014 10:33

Who do you see Noddy? I'm looking for someone in Sussex

Perry10 · 01/07/2014 10:59

Yes the botox will work, don''t worry about that. My elder sister who is nearing had botox injections for her sis-in-laws wedding and she looked stunning. She actually looked like she is my younger sister. Just make sure that you are going to a plastic surgeon with good reputation and experience. All the best.

PickleSarnie · 01/07/2014 11:31

Thank you all. All the botox places near me are at Hair Salons and Beauticians and I'm a bit distrustful of those.

This place is close to my work though: www.theprivateclinic.co.uk/our-clinics

I've no idea what they're like but I've seen them on Embarassing Bodies so I guess they can't be dodgy?

I'm going to take the plunge and go see them to book a consultation later!

I initially went with a mate who has really had too much sun very very lined. I went to hold hand really and the doc said it wouldn't do anything for her. He then asked me if I had glasses but didn't wear them! He was right. I had several deepish lines on forehead and no crows feet or any other lines at all he said my lower face looked years younger than forehead. I am 49. I have half a dose twice a year and can still move everything and no startled look.

CateBlanket · 01/07/2014 15:01

Did the doc suggest anything else for your friend, noddy?

worried about her going in lined and coming out still lined but with a younger looking friend

noddyholder · 01/07/2014 15:18

She had some sort of other thing with a different doctor in London called fraxil or something

FoxyHarlow123 · 01/07/2014 17:10

Happy, what difference do you see in your skin with dermaroller?

HappyGirlNow · 01/07/2014 17:17

Amazing difference Foxy - skin plumped and glowing, fine lines vastly improved.. Had the recommended 3 sessions 6 weeks apart prior to my wedding last year and then it's recommended one session a year (just had this year's a few weeks ago and my skin is looking great if I do say so myself!) Grin They also give you a home roller with smaller needles to use a couple of times a week..

As well as that I have a little filler in cheekbones and sides of mouth and a small dose of Botox (don't do the 'frozen' look).
