Anyone fancy helping me find an "oh this old thing? I only wear it when I don't care how I look" dress for DH's birthday do?

We're having a casual, early evening family friendly party for DH'S 40th and I need a dress or something else suitable to wear. I'm imagining an elegant, subtly sexy/glam maxi dress (does this exist?) Or maybe something else that will make me look and feel amazing.

I'm 38, 5'6" and size 12. Pale skin, dark hair, ok boobs, less good tummy.

Help!

I'm enjoying these links and following with interest- as an aside, kudos on the Gloria Grahame quote! Grin

Something from phase eight? They have lots of lovely dresses.

grassyarsesenor · 30/06/2014 22:47

Definitely the j crew dress, it's the most understated and glamourous one of all the links.

That ASOS one is lovely - I'd stick a cropped denim jacket on top, flat sandals, then you could make it seem like it was an 'oh, this old thing?' as you were being so casual about something quite glam.

monsoon dress

This is THE most fabulous flattering dress ever and you are exactly the same size as me Generic

And no, it's not mine - I'll never sell it! Fab with wedges.

Hope the link works....

GenericDietCola · 03/07/2014 10:56

The dress arrived and I don't like it! It's really long and doesn't seem to fit quite right. The search goes on!

Have you looked at the maxi dresses in Mango?

Greengardenpixie · 03/07/2014 13:05

That's beautiful, Greengardenpixie.

SummerSazz, you have got me looking on EBay - I love a bargain! I found this beauty on there, which looks nice and probably fell off the back of a lorry. What do you reckon?

BOFster · 03/07/2014 16:34

Very nice, and flattering to your shape.

SummerSazz · 07/07/2014 19:42

I guess it depends on your colouring Generic. I can't wear browns but I do love the shape and colours - I guess my concern is it wears you rather than the other way round if not in your colour palette.

I know the one I linked to looks rubbish on the hangar but it hangs on the body just beautifully - in fact I wheeled mine out on Sat afternoon for a BBQ and again got lovely comments.

Hanger FFS. I doubt a Boeing 777 would suit it Grin
