Cracked heels

I have bought and love the Scholl express-pedi, it's a wonder product for removing the dead skin on my heels and making them smooth. However, I need a heel balm/cream that maintains the smoothness, as a day or 2 after filing they are cracking again.
I don't think it's a good idea to aggressively file every other day, I think it's promoting over production of the skin on my heels which is defeating the object!!
Can anyone recommend a really effective heel balm/cream for moisturising the awfulness of my feet????

Flexitol Heel Balm (after bathing your feet - urea helps your skin to absorb water so if they are dry, it's less effective)

Primark sell a 'stick' like a chubby lip balm

Or Vaseline rubbed in well

Wear socks to stop it being messy and the warmth helps it absorb

Adults feet are not MEANT to be baby smooth, your feet (especially your heels) take the impact of your bodyweight every step. So 6000 -10000 steps a day.
Yes keep them smooth and moisturised but be aware that skin is tougher for a reason.

NHS Podiatrist.

Thanks, that's helpful. Out of interest, does the skin being tougher mean it should look thicker? That's what mine looks like, like it's got too many extra layers.

I like Heel Genius by Soap & Glory with socks on overnight.

I have awful dry heels. I get the dry skin cut off at the chiropodist then between visits I use a cheese grater thing for feet and this heel balm, which I find better than Flexitol.

Thanks, I like the idea of a "stick" I don't like touching the dry bits so it avoids rubbing cream in!!!

Hands and feet have a different sort of keratinisation ( brickwork rather than basket weave was how it was described to me in college)

Your skin should still be flexible, if you pinch the skin between you fingers it should 'bend' when you pinch it.

Dry cracked skin is more likely to fissure which (apart from being painful and knackering your socks) can bleed and be a portal for infection.
And (as I say to my patients till I'm blue in the face) it's much much easier to prevent split heels than to heal them. You can'r not walk on your heels.

dexter I think that's the one I saw in Primark.

It's so good, I really recommend it.

I used Liz Earle Superbalm on my heels one winter night.
Rationale - it's moisturising, it's winter.
I won't use it anywhere else because I really hate lavender.
Rubbed it in, put socks on.
Went for a shower the next morning. Fell on my bum. Sad when my feet got wet.

Never had this with Vaseline .
