Skirts and dresses through the seasons!

I recently discovered that I am comfier and look better wearing skirts and dresses than jeans.
This is great for me as I can actually see I now have a nice waist, and the weather has recently been kind!
It's also been a revelation to not feel as 'exposed', like i was always stressed about how every line and contour of my body was visible in skinnies....

But, I am wondering, how will I transition to autumn/winter if I wish to avoid resorting to jeans all the time?

I don't think fashion currently favours the skirt, as most jackets and coats don't go with them, I HATE cardigans, and although I am happy to have my legs out in summer i will be obviously moving to tights in winter.

I prefer knee, just above knee and calf length skirts/dresses, these suit me best.
Any tips going forward?
How would you wear yours?

I look better in skirts and dresses too.

In winter I like just above the knee skirts with black opaques, ankle boots and a fitted sweater, last winter I wore this lot together about once a week...

sweater
skirt
ankle boots

Tights - coloured opaques and chunky wool ones for short dresses. Ankle boots and knee boots for shorter dresses. Coats - yes, you have to find a knee length one and they mostly seem to be arse length don't they. But there are nice knee coats with belts to pull in and show off that nice waist in dresses.

I don't do longer than knee length but I would say with calf length you should stick with a jacket/short length coat.

I wear long sleeved tshirt/fine knit layering tops underneath the dresses in the winter, or fine knit polo necks if really cold.

Only prob I have is spring and autumn where it's not hot enough for bare legs but too hot for tights - then I'll either wear Fluor bright opaques, or more likely jeans & converse for a couple of weeks!

In autumn and winter I like wearing slightly shorter dresses than summer, maybe a couple of inches above the knee, with opaque tights and boots. Uniqlo do fab thermal tops and vests to add some layers without bulk. Where I fall down is my inability to find a nice chunky cardi that doesn't make me look like a granny.

Also like stuff like this with uniqlo jeans legging things and I have a couple of other warmer dresses. Also jsut long sleeved dresses, dresses in warmer fabrics. You can get some lovely wintery dresses. I find winter easier. In summer I struggle to find what I want in the right length!

Oasis etc knitted dresses are great, there are also 2 stretchy monsoon dresses (wrap) on knee that are v comfy yet smart.

Also you say you hate cardigans H&M did a nice pointelle one, Fitted, a good coverup.

Uniqlo heat gen tops (long, short sleeved etc) can also do away with need for cardis - my office is freezing so I need the warmth!

These are great tips, thanks!
I agree about the longer length skirts and shorter jackets. Maybe a fitted but casual blazer.

Up until winter my trench coat really works well with dresses and skirts, and in winter most of my jackets are ok with shirt skirts (which i do suit, so that's fine), but I would perhaps lay off the calk length skirts in winter, unless able to just team it with a nice chunky jumper.

I can't relate to people who feel more comfy in skinny jeans - they hug the body so not very relaxing, and leave pretty much everything on show. I am happy with my figure but kind of not comfortable wearing super tight clothes all the time, so am always in awe of people who are happy in skinnies! Plus, if i wear flat shoes with jeans i look stumpy, and am already slim. So what gives? Are the popularity of tight jeans a fad, or is there a secret i am missing?
