Has anyone done DIY ombré on their hair?

Is it easy and does it look good? I want to go a bit lighter but not right near my hairline and don't want roots. My hairs a mid-dark brown, will I end up with orange ends? Any advice much appreciated, thanks

I've never tried it myself but i like the effect. I would check out some tutorials on YouTube first- there are loads for DIY ombré. If you can, try to find the best match for your hair colour/ length so you can see if the look you want is achievable. If you are going to try it it's probably a good idea to get someone to help you to make sure the ombré effect is even all the way around. I would go subtle first- you can always repeat bleach steps but less easy to go backwards!

I did it and it's really easy.

I've got dark brown hair with light brown ombré. Was also scared of going orange so didn't want to go too light.

I did the whole underside of my hair and then did it in stages at the front. I found that back combing lightly made it look more subtle and not like a block.

Is this like home kit baléage?

I've been thinking of doing this as I don't want roots.

singaporeswing did you do it in your own or did you need help?

Did it on my own - with DP in the background shouting "YOU MISSED A BIT" Grin

I did it in stages, washed it off and checked the colour before putting a little bit more on.

Backcombing the front really helped it look natural and sunkissed.

I'm going for more of a balayage effect next time so might head to the hairdressers.

I did it by myself in Dec 2012 6 weeks after having my second dc as I felt SO unglam and this helped a lot Grin

Advice id give is DONT miss any bits and also dont do it in a straight line all the way round as then it'll look like a bad dye growing out but go up into your normal hair a bit.
Hard to explain but you want it to gradually blend from your own hair into the dyed hair.

Yes, three times using the L'Oreal Ombré kit.
I found it really easy but took plenty of time and was fairly careful not to use too much bleach. Just try not to have horizontal stripes if you can, personally I think it looks better and more natural blended than a straight line of colour. Good luck!

Definitely backcomb

frignorant · 30/06/2014 07:35

I've never done it myself but I think you need to backcomb your hair first so that you don't get a solid block of colour.
